Possible new Yorkie owner
 

Hey all! I've just joined to chat with you all and learn some about yorkies. I haven't decided 100% to get one because I don't know much about them. I currently have a very small min pin, but she doesnt get along with my husband and so there's a chance i'll have to give her up (to my mom, so she'll be well looked after!) but there's no way I could give up my one and only without trying to fill the void. Anyways, I love love LOVE little dogs (hence the min pin) and yorkies just seem like the next best thing! :) So if anyone has any tips, advice, or experiences they'd like to share, i'd love to hear!

Welcome to YT. You will learn so much about the Yorkie breed on here. All I can say is research,research,research. I know my two little ones are special, and they capture your heart within minutes of being with them. I could not imagine my life without my little furbutts.

Hi and welcome. :) Just wondering why your minpin does not get along with your husband? Maybe you could fix that problem and get a yorkie to go with him.

It is always a sad thing to have to give up a dog. I had two yorkies but had to give up my new pup because of allergies to him.I tried everything to keep him but after two months had to let him go.

Anyway just a thought. All the best with getting a yorkie. They are great little pets.

jacksonsmom - i would LOVE any tips you could come up with so i didn't have to part with my little girl! here's the scenario...

i got her brand new, and now she's 2 1/2. I met my husband AFTER I'd had her, and we didn't get married/move in together until this January. Any time he'd come to visit she was just fine with him. But now, since moving in together, she's developed, what i think is, fierce jealousy. If he tries to go near her runs away, or simply pees all over. She's totally calm and content when he's away at work, and the minute he walks in the door she become totally neurotic, following me, hiding behind me or under the kitchen table, shivering etc. Even if i'm not in the house, and he tries to let her out to go to the bathroom, she'll pee in her bag the minute he comes close to her. I shoudl mention, he has a little dog (mini schnauzer) of his own, and adores her and couldn't hurt a flea. I've tried getting them to bond by going for walks together, but that keeps ending in catastrophy (she runs away, or simply won't walk). So that's my story. It breaks my heart to even THINK of giving her away, but I believe my marriage needs to come first, and even if my husband can learn to just ignore her, which he promised to do, it's stressful to me to know that I can't even have him come to home to let her out if I have a long day at work.

Any tips? I'm desparate!:confused:

Come on guys :confused: someone with some experience has to have an idea or two. This situation seems like something that could be fixed.

I hope someone comes up with some good suggestions. The only thing I can say is either your husband has to spend more quality time bonding with her, to help her get over the anxiety. Or sadly, she just doesn't like him, and that can happen especially from the lifestyle change. We want to believe that dogs will go with the flow just because we give them shelter, food and a little attention. Many people insist dogs have no feelings or emotions. Well everyday the stories I read tell me different. Yes your marraige is important but I hope you can resolve this without getting rid of her because you never know, the Yorkie you get might not be comfortable either, then what? You'll have to get rid of the Yorkie too :(

well, what i'm hoping is that because we would bring the puppy into our house with both of us already there, she would bond with both of us. he doesn't have a problem with dogs in general like him, just mine for some reason, and only since i moved in. she loved him up until that point! i also wouldn't even BEGIN to consider giving up my dog, except i know that my mother loves her just as much (maybe more?) as i do, and my puppy adores her and my father, and they have a gorgeous fireplace that she just LOVES!!! lol so i know she would be in great hands with unconditional loving! so if for some reason this DID happen with a new pup, i would make it work regardless.
