Doggy Daycare 5 Days a Week? Does anyone send their pup to daycare 5 days a week? Does doing so counteract training you are doing at home? Any issues? Suggestions? Warnings? My husband and I work long hours and don't want to leave our little guy home alone, but we also don't want him to pick up bad habits. |
How old is your pup? |

I am interested in knowing as well for when I start working. I am thinking of maybe only putting her in 2-3 days a week and having a dog walker come the remaining days. |
SophieKate goes to Daycare two days a week and has a dog walker the remaining three. In both cases it didn't interrupt her training at all but in my opinion helped it since I did a lot of screening before hiring both. I find that it is really important to make sure they are on the same page as far as training and so far it has worked well. Good luck. |
Bandit goes once a week and Nala just started and will go every other week. It's def helped with their training. As long as it's an upstanding place and a good trainer is running it, there should be no problems! :D The best part is how tired they are when they come home:) |
I think it is really not necessary, but that is just me. Maybe like 1-2 days a week would be good, but again its not necessary. I think as long as you come home and give them time they are fine. When Peanut was a pup he was in his crate during the hours I worked. Till he was potty trained then he had free range of the the living room/dining room and kitchen. I have a day care for Peanut, but he only goes to that every once in a while, maybe if I am not going to be home all day and night.. or just randomly. I like the idea of taking them and getting them use to other dogs, and socialized, but also that is the "Owners" responsibilty to take them out and do things with them and not just stick them in a day care everyday. I dont think they "learn" any bad habits. But it is up to you to correct that if they do. I feel horrible when Peanut is home alone, but I know that he will just hang out and sleep. Thats when it is important to come home and give them their special time, walks, playtime... etc. So I think 5 days a week is a little too much, maybe like once or twice a week would be fine. |

I think 5 days a week is pretty much for a pup that young. When I first started taking Roxy I took her for a half day. She was so wiped out when I picked her up, she didn't move the rest of the night. It was a little too exhausting and that was only 1/2 day. Roxy is one who is on the move the whole entire time, doesn't lay down to rest at all. Just too much to see & do. She loves being there tho. |
If financially possible I would do 2 days for both dogs, but I don't think they need more than that. They are very active on weekends, and they need some down time. After they get back from doggie daycare they are exhausted, they sleep for the rest of the night. If you did Tuesday and Thursday they'd still be tired on the days that you were gone for work:) |
