the more i see ither yts fur babys and other peoples dog i i am convince somethings wrong with cobys ears.. he will be 15 weeks on the 28 of this month.. ones up the others down.. i have seen way younger babys then him.. most of the yorkies ears are up know i have seen? why dose coby have one stubborn ear that wants too stay down.. they are all so big ears compared too the young yorkie i've seen have small kitty pointed shape ears cobys ears are flobby.. i cut the hair around them when he was at 9 weeks old.. and they still look big floppy crazy looking.. |
what's wrong wtih floppy ears!? Fiona is 21 months old, and has floppy ears, and I wouldn't want it any other way! |
keep massaging it, try taping it up. shave the tips of the ears...all these things MIGHT help it to stand. Sadie had one up and one down for a day or two and then the other came up as well.... if you love your baby though, having a floppy ear won't be that big of a deal. i know it's hard when one does one thing and the other doesn't follow, but in the long run all yorkies are cute even the floppy eared ones or the lop sided ears ones. i wish you luck on trying to get that other one up. |
Did you see Coby's mom and dad? This is the best way to predict what your full-grown yorkie will look like. Some breeders don't breed to standard, and will breed any dog that they own, so not all yorkies have erect ears. Sometimes even though a breeder breeds standard yorkies, floppy ears occur, and while these yorkies shouldn't be bred, they make wonderful pets. I'm guessing since you had your dog since he was 9 weeks old, the breeder wasn't too informed about the breed, as most breeders insist that yorkies stay with mother a minimum of 12 weeks. There are several things you can do to encourage perky ears, but for a pet this really isn't important, and I think floppy ears are adorable, especially one up and one down! :D |
Wasnt Coby 9 weeks when you got him Sept 1st... that would make him way older then 15 weeks now??? Isnt he closer to 5 months??? On another note, Laci's ears are both half floppy half stick up!! its cute , I love them like that! |

Hot Rod ears didn't stand up til about 8 mos. I shaved them, taped them and finally decided to love him with floppy ears and lo and behold, they stood up! Literally right after I took the picture in my avatar. I think it was like 1 or 2 days after I took this picture. so there is hope. |

As Nancy pointed out, it sounds like you got Coby from a breeder who wasn't too informed about Yorkies and wasn't breeding to the standard. The Yorkie standard is a blueprint for the ideal Yorkie set forth by the breed club, the YTCA. If a breeder doesn't follow the blueprint, which starts with parents who are close to the standard as possible, the result is a puppy who may not look much like a Yorkie is supposed to. It's just like not following a recipe exactly when you cook .... the result can be far from what you expected! :D The standard calls for the ears to be "small, V-shaped, carried erect and set not too far apart. " If Coby's ears are extra large, the weight of them will make it impossible for them to stand up. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America |

Floppy eared babies are great! 4 Attachment(s) If you're not going to be showing your dog floppy ears aren't that big of a deal. They're super cute either way! If your baby is happy and healthy don't worry, and you have received a bunch of good suggestions on how to get your baby's ears to stand. But if they don't, this is what you could look forward to having: Attachment 298590 Attachment 298591 Attachment 298592 Attachment 298593 Cute right?:D |
