Keeping Warm I would love some tips and tricks or just imput on ways to keep these little furbutts nice and warm as the temperture drops. This will be our first winter with little Maddie and I can already tell that it will be alot harder keeping her warm than it has been for Copper. I could just throw a hoodie and jacket on Copper and he could go all day. I am finding that her feet and ears are so so cold after a quick walk. And it is nearly impossible to find warm clothes that are not too bulky. We have been keeping her pj's on under her jacket when we take her out so she is not shivering the whole time. I would love to hear other ways or great products that you all are using that keep your babies nice and cozy warm. |
They have dog shoes for rain and winter. I would also try those hand warmers that you use in your gloves? You crack them and they start warming up? If she has a hoody or a coat with pockets, maybe you can stick those in there and it will help keep her body warm. What about those back warmer things that velcro on? Stick one on the outside of her jackets so that it's not directly on her body and it serves kind of like an electric blanket. I've never tried any of these (we're in Texas) but I hope they help. |
i take my dog out and go for a very quick potty walk around the block and when i bring them in i turn on the heating element in the dog bed for about 15 min and then i turn it off it warms them up and they are fine after that i keep the house at 68 so the shock is not to bad from the outside in and vice versa when i carry them in bags i use rice warmers and they love that mine stay pretty warm |
Wal-mart has cute sweaters and coats and at an affordable price ( sorry didn't mean to sound like the commercials! ) Fiona has a really cute bomber jacket from there, and i make sure she has it on during winter when we go outside, and i have hoodies for her as well! :) In her crate she has fleece blankets to cuddle up with as well! :animal-pa |
Dara311 is right, go to WalMart if there's one near you. This is my first winter with Prince and the stores have really nice aviator jackets and sweaters (I knit all Prince's sweaters but the jackets are affordable and soo cute). I was really surprised in the detail of the jacket; the little fur trimmed hood snaps off and he can wear it as a vest, and it has a real pocket - I have no idea for what. I also use fleece blankets in his crate to keep him warm. I may get him some doggy boots too. |
Thankyou for all the good ideas... Keep'em comming:) I love the ideas about heat packs or rice warmers, she has a heat pad in my bed;) like the kind for puppies that goes under a blanket and then she sleeps on. But something portable like in a carrier never even crossed my mind. and we have lots of clothes but I am scouring the internet for a pair of booties or socks in her size. The clothes at our walmart are all a little big for Maddie but I will look on line and see if they have more sizes there... good ideas. I feel so bad it is only november but she has been under blankets or by the heater most of this week. |
I just got a snugglesafe, yesterday...it's a hard disk like thing that you heat in the microwave, and then put under their bed or blankets...I was totally amazed that I heated it up about 7, last night, and it was still warm around 10 this morning...I wish I'd had this when Apple was a baby...Of course, the pup needs to be able to move away from it, if it's too warm...With the cover on it, it won't burn or anything, but it is really warm...They are made in England, and it's cold there! |

I would think some little boots should help. Maybe get a doggie snuggie for after the walk, so your baby can also use the remote control or answer the phone with ease...just like the people do in the commercials. :D |
chester does not have anything for the feet, but I like the fleece outfits from teckel klub it is out of canada, I just put it over his head and it attaches with velcro under the belly. |

We did just order some little boots and socks to try out... I hope that she likes them. |
Silly princesmom, the pockets are for treats, hehehehehe! some good ideas on here. I don't have to worry too much where I live, but if I visit my family Boise I will. :p Donna |
Pajamas and nighties for night time are a must for single coated dogs IMO. If she's past the chewing stage, Thermo Kitty heated pads are wonderful. Thermo Kitty Fashion Splash |
