Do You keep your dogs harness on all day? Hi everyone! I just recently got a harness for my puppy and she hates wearing it because she is only 3 lbs, and its so bulky on her (even though it's a size xs) so I dont want to leave it on her all day, but it's such a task getting the thing on and off of her because she fights it everytime. I am training her to go to the bathroom outside, so we are in and out all day... should I just leave the harness on all day and then take it off at night? what do you guys do? Thanks!! |
Is it a step in harness? Those are easier to deal with as opposed to the ones that slip over the head. I put the harness on only when I'm going to use the leash. I don't leave it on them all day. |
Only when we are going for a walk! I had the step in harness which I did leave on for a couple hours at home a few times and it rubbed all my girls chest hairs off. Now we have a little dress harness that we use only when we go on walks. |
24/7 for mine. |
i take mine off when we come in from outside but mine is a fully adjustable mesh harness it is not a good idea to leave a harness on all day it can cause chafing maybe you should buy a different harness hear is mine its not to expensive about 22$ Mesh Harness Product |
Buddy wears his harness only for walks. All other times he's wears nothing. We live on the 2nd fl in a Condo and he has no access outdoors so he's safe from getting away from me. |
Galahad wears his all the time for now, excepting brushing and bath time. He's still getting used to having it on, we're housebreaking so outside frequently. I have two kids in school so the door opens and closes multiple times in a day, aside from his going out to potty. It's handy when he darts out the door (easy for my neighbor to grab onto when he goes to visit her females, lol). He has one of these. |
Nope. I wouldn't think it would be comfortable to leave a harness on them all day, especially the area under the front legs. I use the harness vests with the velcro closures on my girls. I had some made by Annie & some made form Jodie also. Very easy to just velcro around the neck & chest area when going outside. |
i only use the step in harness, and its only when we go on walks |
On my puppy I leave it on all day and take it off at night. I also attached a bell to it so I can locate her quicker. My adult goes naked, but she doesn't dart out the door. If this pup doesn't quit doing that she will wear it every day until she does. I have to have something to grab her by. |
Nope, my adopted baby had one on when we adopted him and when we took it off for his first bath, he had sores under both front legs and his chest from where it rubbed. It had to have been on for a while to cause sores like that. Now he's all better, sores are ALL healed. I would get the step in one that katy-yorkie mentioned. I think they are called Lupine harnesses?? Much easier to take on and off. |
My boy wears his harness all day when we are at work and only for outings when the weekend comes around. |
Missy only wears hers when she's going to be using the leash. |
only for walkies in our house...we'll also put it on anytime we go in the car or to a vets or event. pretty much anytime we go out the Front door, it's harness, if it's just to potty out the back door we don't use it...we don't have a fenced in yard for now, so we just pick her up and place her inside a 4x5 ft. chicken wire fence pen and she pees and we pick her back up and take her inside. when she was very little, we'd harness and play in the yard off leash, but since she's bigger we don't do that anymore for fear she'll run off too far. we're getting a big yard with privacy fence so we'll get to play outside again in a couple weeks but i'll use harness most likely anytime she's out more than to just pee and i think i'll still use the chicken wire pen for pottying because it's safe and it keep the big yard cleaner. plus she knows what to do in it. |
Maddie has a step in harness and she only wears it on walks or outings. |
