new Yorkie/Llapso Apso Just got our puppy, 8 weeks old, We got if from a private party, she did a few doses of de-wormer, what else will we need to get for health right away. Also, we are crateing him and he is doing great, minimal accidents inside, mostly we bring him outside and he goes. But, during the night (only has been 2 nights so far)...he crys, before we put him in (10pm) we take him out to go bathroom, then put him in the crate in the kitchen, he cries for awhile then goes to sleep, then about 12:30-1:00am he starts to cry again, so we get up and take him outside to go to the bathroom, then put him back into the crate , he cries a little then goes to sleep, until about 5:30-6am. We use to let our kids cry in their crib, so we are trying the same tactic, is this correct way to do it??? Thanks Barry |
Yes. This is correct. You do have to assume that if he wakes up and cries around 12:30-1am, he has to go potty, being that young. You are doing great. |
What type of vet care does he need right away, and what are other people feeding their pups??? The girl we got ours from fed them "old Roy" from Walmart, but that has ground yellow corn as its first ingredient |
Do a search on here on foods theres quite a few good brands but Old Roy isnt a good brand. When you do switch you need to do it gradually or your pup can get diahrea and stomach upset |
luckily he has only been on it for two days and has not eaten much of it |
You need to make an appointment with your vet and let him take a look at the little one. The vet will instruct you on the vaccines your puppy is due for and the intervals you will need to go back until your puppy is fully updated on shots. The vet will also check your little guy to make sure that he is currently healthy and does not see anything to be concerned about. |
i agree Everyones has given you sound advice. I would assure you give a "puppy food" right now. A lamb and rice one works well for us. (until you go to your vet) puppy food has a higher protien for the little ones. We are lucky in that the yorkies really eat such a small amount in comparison to the large breeds. Much easier to get the higher quality pet food. A broad specturm wormer and up to date on shots are the basics. Your vet can check for worms and direct you on the type of wormer you will need to use. Your vet will be able to check more thouroughly for any special health concerns also.:) Enjoy your new furbaby! WELCOME TO YORKIE TALK!!! |
I would also get whatever flea/tick preventative and a heartworm preventative that your vet suggests. ;) |
