Worried....grooming issues :(:( Hey everyone :) I brought Coco in for a little haircut 2 days ago and noticed since then he's been acting differently. When I had picked him up he seemed nervous but I figured it was normal because he's always like that when I pick him up from a haircut, it wasn't the first time. But then we got home he started to pee everywhere. He's mat trained and he never pees ANYWHERE else except on his mat. But since then, he pees everywhere but on his mat...it's really strange.. Also he's not peeing as often as he used, now he does it about...2x a day..which compared to before is a big change cuz he would go often..I checked his bladder area, there's no irritation, redness or anything unusual everything looks fine. Could this be psychological? Could it have affected him? He's my first yorkie so I'm really scared and overprotective ..I would really appreciate your opinions. Thanks :) -Maria |
How old is he? Is he nuetered? Is he marking things or just peeing on the floor? I would go back to potty training mode, he should improve with the reminder. |
He could have a Urinary Tract infection and need to be checked out by the vet's office. Good luck with your little one. |
He's 8 months and he's neutered. No he's not marking he's just peeing on the floor which is too unusual. I just feel like he got frightened at the groomers and now he's just not listening to me...:( |
I'm curious..are urinary tract infections obvious? Any signs? Or is it all internal? |
I think the only way to tell is with a urine sample, but I am not an expert in these things. Maybe someone else will reply on this question. |
I am thinking a UTI. How long did he hold it while at the groomers? That can cause one. |
Im not quite sure but when I picked him up he released himself quite alot. Do you think I should wait and see? Are there any symptoms of a urinary tract infection I should be aware of? |

I agree, it sounds like UTI. They can't hold it & will have accidents. The vet can prescribe antibiotics to clear it up. |
I would take him to the vet and have him checked and I would learn to groom him myself and not take him back to where you just had him groomed. There could be two things going on here. One physical and the other mental. I think for sure he did not like the grooming experience. That could be why he is acting out. He could also have a UTI caused by something that was done or not done at the groomers. |
Your gromer may have given him some sort or drugs to calm him down. Drugs would make him pee less because it dehidrates the body... I took brinks to the groomer one time and he came back acting funny. He is normally hyper and always seems to be a smiling pup. Well when I got home he was tired and moody and was doing this wierd thing with his head like it was a bobble head doll. He didnt eat for the rest o the day and e ws unresponsive which is completely unusual for Brinks. The groomer didnt even mention anything to me or even ask I was pretty pissed about it and never took him back to her. |
That's horrible and illegal! Yeah I definetly think I'm going to start grooming him myself. I know for a fact that he was traumatized because he was acting weird when he got back...but this whole peeing thing all over the place with him is very unusual too. I don't know, I definetly learnt my lesson though. Thank you all for advice :))) |
