Greenies as treats I have a question about Greenies. A neighbor recommended them, but there is also controversy surrounding them. I have an almost 7 pound Yorkie. |
Please, please NOOOO greenies. I lost a 10 month old puppy after 5 yrs ago due to greenies. She ate them everyday, then finally bowl obstruction and burst. Bad stuff....I don't care what they say. |
I have a 12 lb. baby and I fed them to her, before I found this site.;) Within the first bag she would eat one and ALWAYS puke it back up hours later and it would still looked whole. It didn't look like she was able to digest them and I thought it was just her. I only gave her a few but she did this with each one. I am so glad her body forced them out instead of allowing htem to become lodged in her like so many others have reported happening. I would avoid them. There are too many other great healthy treats for them, |
If you are trying to use treats for training purposes, you can use their own food or a nice pat on the head and a good belly rub works great. If you're looking for a good chew, there is a couple of threads with a lot of great suggestions. I'm glad you brought it up though because I was considering those for a while  |
I'm glad I read this! Thanks! |
I fed a few of them (different times, of course!) to my Joey when he was younger, and we had no issues. I didn't stop getting them because I was concerned about his health, but because they were so spendy...I didn't even hear about the bowel obstructions until months after I hadn't gotten any more for him. Now, I will not ever buy a greenie again, because I don't know what I would do if I lost one of my furbabies (well, human babies either, I just don't have any yet...). I give them rawhides and these other dental chews that I don't know the name of off the top of my head...I would love to find something that lasts longer though To others reading: what are bully sticks? I've heard about them, but I've never seen them to my knowledge... |

bully sticks are a fav around here.....they are dehydrated bulls boy parts...yup! I just ordered a sample...don't know if I can cope! |
I have not known anyone personally to have any issues with Greenies and in saying that, I have never had an issue. Max and Molly get one every night at bedtime (its a part of their routine). Its one of their favorite treats. They have never had problems with vomiting or digesting them. If you want to try them, they will send you a free sample. |
i have been giving magic greenies for about 4 years now. never had any problems but he only gets one maybe once a month if that and i buy the smallest ones they have. he really likes them but i would never give every day. also on the package they say they are vet recommened are they not being honest?:aimeeyork |
