What's a good sewing machine for someone who only wants to make simple yorkie stuff? :sewmachinI need something that is very easy to use. I really don't sew, but I wanted to try to make some cute stuff for Prince. Any ideas? |
Just get a portable home sewing machine, they do lots of different stitches, and they are really easy to thread. I have two, but I keep going back to my trusty Brother that I got a costco years ago for less than $200. Don't really use my singer anymore. industry machines are attached to big ugly green tables and used cost upwards of $500. Oh and they only do one stitch. |
Janome is another great brand that offers affordable, but durable models. |
I agree just get a portable table top model and a case to close it up,and carry it around.You can get a really decent one any more for $200-$250 and it will have all the stitches that you will really need. |
I agree with a Janome!!! I have had three different Janome sewing machines and love them. I also have a Janome serger. I started with the basic sewing machine, should have kept it to, it sewed like a dream. I traded it in to upgrade to one that also embroiders, then upgraded again. Sewing is fun, I just don't have as much time anymore, I would rather buy it already made, guess I am lazy!!LOL!! I do have to make a diaper bag set for a baby shower this weekend though, guess I better get busy!!!! |

Go to Wal Mart and check out their basic sewing machines. You will need straight stitch, zig zag stitch for finishing seams, etc. A button hole stitch would be great for making that finished "hole" in the top of a coat for the leash to attach to the harness. I would not get a used machine, since you can get a simple new one for a very good price. |
Checking at Walmart would be OK, just try and avoid the very cheapest models as they can be difficult to get adjusted so they sew correctly. Also, I have seen many complaints about today's Singer machines, I would look at a Brother or Janome. Features that would make your sewing life easier are, drop in bobbin, one-step buttonhole, zig-zag stitch, automatic tension adjustment. Many fabric and sewing stores offer beginning sewing classes. You would benefit from that to learn the basics. Good luck. |
on black friday wal-mart always have basic sewing machine on sale for like $47 . i go to black friday at 8:00 they alway have house hold stuff left.people go for toys and t.v. im going to get one myself. |

Some good advice here... My two cents...stay away from Singer. I bought a Brother from Walmart for around $180.00 with lots of extra stitches and a walking foot (for quilting or sewing multi-layers) to carry to sewing classes. It's great and light weight. I have a Janome embroidery machine and it was too heavy to carry around. Janome is a good brand and they do make regular sewing machines. I love to sew and serge! :sewmachin Donna |
My first sewing machine was a $90 Brother machine from Walmart and it sews everthing. I have made a few doggie shirts with no problem. If you are willing to wait til Black Friday that sewing machine on sale at Walmart would be a steal. |
