Getting a dog ready for Grooming I just wanted to know what I can do to get my 6 month little girl ready to go to the groomers. I comb her everyday, most of the time she does not like it, so I am worried when we get scissors, and clippers around what she would do? What could I do to get her use to it and ready to go to the groomers? Thx! |
Maybe while you're brushing her, turn the clippers on and just lay them next to her so she can get used to the sound. When you brush her, handle her face, ears and feet a lot to get her used to that as well. Other than that, she just has to be exposed to grooming before she will get used to it. No dog was born to like grooming. Well, maybe a few ;) |
Fergie is going to the groomer on the 18th for her first time too! I'm also worried she's gonna squirm and mess up her haircut lol She was really good at the vet though so we will see! |
when you are brushing and combing her have her stand on a higher surface like the table or washer/dryer. have then stand and not lay down. this makes it easier so they will get used to standing up on the grooming table. also like suggested before handle their face, ears, and feet a lot. pretend your cutting nails and plucking ears. i did a 6 month old maltipoo yesterday who the owner brushes and combs everyday. the dogs hair was 5 inches long and very poofy. i was so happy the dog was used to being brushed and combed because she let me do it no problem. she was used to laying down or sitting while doing it which was a problem that we had to fix but she did well for her first time. she was not happy about having her ears plucked and cleaned so that was something the owner needed to work on. she was pretty good for everything else because she'd been exposed to it every day. it was a good groom |
