Bows or No Bows? I would like to know if anyone else has trouble keeping bows in their Yorkies precious hair? I want Mitzee to wear bows, but when I put them in - until she forgets about it - her main purpose is to get that bow off her head. Plus, my goodness those things are hard to get in. Any suggestions? |
4 Attachment(s) lschatz try to put in the stretch bands out of the baby department for her to get used to something in her hair at first. They just have to get used to the idea. Not sure what technique you are using to get the bows in place. You start at the corner of each eye and go in a v pattern to the top of the head. Make sure they are not too tight, as pulling the eyes up, so they can't close their eyes. This will take take some time to master.... :p It is funny that this question came up as I am staying up late to get my website all published with the new bows. Here are a couple sneak previews for you. Hope to have it done soon.... I am getting so tired.... |
I used the colored rubberbands they sell by the combs & stuff first because they can't work them out before I started with the bows and I have no problem. They sit & wait patiently now but I can say the first week is usually the hardest as they wriggle around & try to get away but just be firm and do it everyday! Good luck! |
I use the tiny bands made for people and also the FREE bows from build a bear and just wrap them around enough times so that they cann't get them out. After lots of practice and consistency it only takes me a few minutes to do it and they sit still cause they are used to it. I just started putting them in my pups since their hair is long enough now and they are already used to it...only have done it about three times :) |
Princess takes hers out too. As soon as I pick her up from the groomers, it's out before we get to the car. It's real hard to get a picture of her with one. :( |
I dont use the little rubber bands . We use the small plastic ones. They work good for us. Then we put the bow in. |
I have never tried bows on Leili's hair. However, I am using metal barrettes for her hair and she looks very cute. I bought the metal barrettes at Wal-Mart. The are also sold at the "One dollar" and "General dollar" stores, but I like the ones I bought at Wal-Mart better because they are longer so they hold Leili's hair much better. At Wal-Mart it cost about $2+ for a package of 6 I pull Leili's hair up in one bundle and clip one barrette on each side. I was told by one of my friends not to use the rubber bands as they will pull Leili's hair out and if the bands are used a long time, soon or later Leili would get a bald spot on her head. She looks very cute with her hair up. However, she also looks very cute with her hair down as I cut her hair close to the ear areas very short and trim her hair around her mouth, chin a little bit every month. This way she does not have a bushy look. Catry |
I use the barettes with the bows.. they are fast and easy. See Ralphies pictures.. got his at WalMart-they do not come out either. |
Instead of using bows I thread an elastic threaded through a small shank type button. I found lots of cute buttons (with the shanks) and Lexie doesn't mind them at all. |
Thank you all so much for your tips and suggestions. I think I will try the bands first and then go from there. At least we are now at the point where I can brush her everyday. Or I should say I have to brush her while she gives me that look - "Ah Mom do I have to nowwww?" LOL I am so glad though to hear this is not just a Mitzee thing. I now know there is hope. Thank you all so much! |
