LOL, I know the feeling when I take my silkie girl out people go OMG, that is one big yorkie..LOL, most people don't even know about the silky being a different breed..LOL

Since the Yorkie was used in the making of the Silky, I wonder if they have the same color variations as the yorkie.

yes, that is why is so easy to confuse them..:D
to the untrained eye my silkies look like enlarge copies of the yorkie...LOL:p

Great description.

It really does take owning or seeing a lot of Silkys to know the difference.
They are very different even tho they look similar. A lot of people think they could get a silky & it will be just like a Yorkie just bigger But there personalities are way different also. Silkys are Very stubborn More so than Yorkies. :D

What I do like about the Silkie Standard is that there is no weight standard and color of the coat isn't as precise as in the Yorkie Standard and as an exhibitor/breeder that coat color is so difficult to get right.

But, standing ringside getting ready to go in the ring, and in the next ring there is the Silkie you definately see the difference in the breeds. Not only in their structure, size, coat, but in their movement.

Barb Biessel a great yorkie breeder and one of the great handlers, handles Silkies too, states there is a definate differance in their temperament too.

Definitely I don't see much the same in personality at all.

She handles them seperately and keeps them seperate because of the personality differances. Now she is handler, trainer and works with both breeds on a daily basis, so I can only take her word for it.

oh YES, and beleive me living with both breeds is fun, fun, I find that my yorkie is more stuburn than the silkie, also training took a bit longer with my yorkie she thinks she is the boss..:p my silky is more YAPPIER, she barks to let me know my son flushed the toilet...:rolleyes: more humble than my yorkie and not as clingy..LOL they are as different as night and day.. I LOVE both of them.. and still try my best to make both of them very happy here in my home..

Ah! But, you have a female yorkie, definately a bit more moody and a mind of their own. Now I don't find training my yorkies difficult at all. My pups go home pretty well piddle pad trained, some at 12 weeks of age have that stand stay command down, and the ones that aren't being kept by me for show have the sit command down. They'll do anything for a treat.

LOL, yes I think sometimes that she is menopausal.. even tho she is spayed..LOL I do have a male yorkie but he lives with my aunt, she fell in love with him, he is the PERFECT dog.. and when her husband passed she asked me to borrow him for a couple of day and i did not have the heart to asking her to bring him back home, and I knew by then that I wanted a silky couple so i let her love him..but my door is always open for him to come home if need be.. and YES my Prada is the boss, even my kids say so...LOL she even gives my son's alaskan malamute a run for his bones..
other than that life is good..

I will say I would rather show a boy than a girl any day of the week. My girls can show like dreams one day and the next day they look at me like I've lost my mind.....My boys are consistent and really want to please, lil dreams in the ring.

I purchased my 75% Silky 25% Yorkie fully expecting her to be more Silky in many traits...especially her weight! However, she only ended up being 5.5 lbs which surprised me. I know that each dog is different, but I really thought she would have been bigger. She does have Silky features, though. Her nose and headshape is all silky, she's longer vs. tall, and she has the small catlike feet. I had a purebred Yorkie growing up (he was heavier by 2 lbs :O) ) and seeing the differences now are really obvious. I love her regardless--she's my little shaddow!

oh yes, my silky boy is precious and almost perfect, we are still working on the yapping they can go crazy when they want,until I tell them to stop then again that is one very classic silky trait..other than that he is a dream and a pleaser, he also loves his chicken breat treats..
