Doggie Patch Has anyone tried the Doggie Patch? I saw it at Petco the other day. It is a training kinda potty tray system that has a patch of artificial grass on top and the urine leaks through a plastic layer to the bottom tray. I saw 2 sizes, one (I think - 27" x 30" -$79.00 and the other a little smaller -$49.00--sorry, I may be off on the measurements but I remember that it was close to the size of a regular pee pad, I use the larger ones, 36 x 36) I use pads now and was wondering if anyone has any experience/review on this product. Thanks in advance.:) |

I don't know but I sent the website to my gf when I first saw it because she has had an awful time with potty training her yorkie. I like it because it gives them the feeling of grass so that when you do take them outside, it's not foreign to them and also because they can pee on it over and over and it doesn't soil like a pee pad. Some dogs are very particular about having a clean place to "go" on. I know hers is. |
My usage would be to use it instead of pads. Mine are pretty much potty trained. I kept them on pads as well as outside because we boat and I wanted to make sure that they would still use the pad. I was curious if anyone had used it and what they thought about it. :) |
Rocky uses WizDog INDOOR DOG POTTY for: dog house training, housebreaking puppies, dog and puppy training and does very well. I change the paper in it and he goes potty there 100% of the time when inside - and still goes outside too while on walks and playing. We live in a condo, so we don't have a yard and this works great! I think the one you saw would work well, only thing I would worry is about poo being stuck in the grass and hard to clean. The little grate we have on the WizDog is a pain to clean sometimes but not too bad - definitely better than peepads! |
You can make those potty patches pretty easily yourself. All you need is a large cat litter box, or I used a rubbermaid sweater box. A piece of indoor outdoor grass and a dry dek tile that you can get at home depot or lowes. Put the dry dek (they come in 12" squares, are rubber and you can put them on floors for horses and such). Put the dry dek on the bottom, the fake grass on top and then get that spray that entices the puppies to potty in that area, works pretty good! When you clean it, just rinse everything off and let dry. You can get two pieces of fake grass and two tiles and you can have one in use and one drying. I think the total cost was around $20 or so dollars and it was just as good as the one at petco. Another thing you can use between the dry dek and the carpet is a puppy pad to soak up some of the urine, but it isn't neccessary. |

With colder weather coming we've just been going thru the pads it seems. I have tried washable pads but I just don't keep up with them as well. :( |

No problem! :) We really like the WizDog, we have it set up in our second bathroom - in the shower (which we don't use) and he just steps up, does his business, and leaves. Plus, it's close to the toilet so we can flush away the poo right away! The grate can be cleaned with a Q-Tip and if you have a yard where you can takeit out and hose it down that would be good. We have had it more than a year and have had no problems with it at all. My parents and brother have made home-made WizDogs using a boot tray (you know, those small plastic mats with a lip around them that keep the water in when snow is stuck on boots and then melts inside) and the grate. The grate looks like the same material used to cover lots of kinds of fluorescent lights. It was a cheap alternative - but not quite as big size-wize as the WizDog. |

I made one myself..I ordered the sod and used a kitty litter box. I put Max on there and he jumped right off! He wanted nothing to do with it. He is 2 years old and completey house trained. I suppose that it would be easier to train a puppy vs an older dog like mine. |

Laci is trained outside , however I did order one of these for the winter, to keep her familar with the outside! We often get 12-24 inches of snow, so I thought this may be a good option.. we have horrible snow storms as well so I will need somewhere for her to potty if she cant get outside:animal-pa |
