JUST GOT MY SILKY Terrier!!!!!
 
So i just got my Silky Terrier last night on impulse without knowing much about them. Anyways i have some questions. my main one is that i love her coat! Shes all Black with a little brown and my question is how can i keep her black. I like the black alot better then lighter colors but ive read they change as they age. Also is hair dye an option with puppys? Also any treat, food, potty training or just general tips would be very useful thank you!!!

Hmmmm, I think you should just let her change to whatever color she is going to become, sometimes you are not quite sure how they will end up, but they are beautiful no matter what:) Do a search on whatever topics you are wondering about, there is a ton of info on here:)

Oh nooooo on the dye, just think of the chemicals:eek: dogs my not lick as much as cats do but they still do. The color will be what it will be and you will love her anyway. Is this your 1st dog? Please read the info on YT alot of useful information. And welcome to YT we would love to see photos of her.:)

Congratulations on your new furbaby. :) I always recommend lots of exercise, positive reinforcement, and a consistent schedule.

Hello I breed silky terriers, and I have to ask you to PLEASE don't use dye on her, is very bad for her health. Silkies are usually in the gold and silver and tan and silver family. she will not stay black. genetics plays a big role on her colors but she WILL get lighter. if you have breed specific questions you can pm me and I will be glad to help you.. I am posting a picture of my silkies for you.My male is 4 and my girl is 1 year 7 months.

Curious to know if there's much difference between a Yorkie and a Silky. Found one in a Pet Rescue and thought maybe of getting it to keep my male Yorkie company.

A silky terrier is a mix of a yorkshire terrier and the australian terrier,they were originally called sydney terriers, due to them being raised in Australia.. with beautiful silky hair, a more obolong body and a thiner coat. AKC standards call for an 11 pound maximum weight. I find my silkies to be a bit yappier than my yorkies..:D I feel is a sturdier stronger breed less health issues in my opinion, they still can suffer from some genetic faults but a good line silky is a very healthy dog.. fast, strong and super energetic. one more thing, the silkie has a longer body, a yorkie is more square..

why do some yorkies have black hair or it doesnt lighten when they get older and some do?
