Male or Female We just fell in love with the big personality and want to have a Yorkie in our lives. We don't plan to breed or show. Should we consider a male or female? What should we think about when choosing the gender? |
I have a male. If you are going to dress them, I would get a female. That is about the only time I wish we had a female. The clothes is much cuter! |
I have to say that I think it really depends, why don't you visit and see which one strikes your fancy! |

I have both, my female is loving while my male is loving and more clinging. I heard that males tend to be more attached to you which seems to be true with my two.:):aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
You will probably have both before it's over with lol! I have female that will be one in December and for her birthday we are getting a playmate which is a male. They are VERY addicting:D |

Cooper was 2 in July and the male dogs in general we have had have always been more loving, wanting to be with you etc. So when we went to pick him out we were leaning towards a boy but not 100% decided, but when we got there he picked us out.....was meant to be. He is ALL boy, drives you nuts wanting to play ball all day etc, but man that guy can love! He is so loving. We just got a baby girl a few weeks ago, she is his real sister (same mom/same dad) and I wanted a girl so bad to dress her up, she has been a LOT easier as a puppy, entertains herself more, ok in her play pen when she is tired, enjoys us completely but ok with alone time. She is just a little more calmer, still playful but could still be a little early to tell since she is still a baby. My brother has a boy and girl, and the girl is very nippy, and only wants love when she wants it.....his boy is very loving and will come up to you all the time just to get loving. |
In my opinion it would really depend on the owner/family you know? I would just try a pro con list =P. Those are always helpful in making decisions. I wanted a girl because I have ALWAYS had boy dogs. I loved them all very dearly, but I just wanted a little girl with her pretty little girly face and I even wanted the snobby part =P Shes just my little angel |
Love our little boy Max. He is such a mommy's boy! LOL |
I'll give advice as a breeder/exhibitor/pet owner. I love my girls, but oh my boys........Girls around here belong to my husband......my boys are more loving, ready to please. Even in showing, I'd much prefer showing a boy over a girl.....girls have that hormonal thing going on. I can take her in the ring on one day and she'll show like a dream, the next day she'll look at me like I've lost my mind. But, all in all it's a matter of personal preferance and what you choose. |
I'd say boy but I suppose I'm biased! I grew up with female dogs my entire life, Jackson is my first boy and I think I'll own boy dogs for the rest of my life (unless a special girl captures my heart). I'm also around two male Boxers a lot as I dogsit for them and they are the biggest lovebugs ever! I've never had girls like that! |
I have a male and female both. In my experience with each I find the male is more clingy, loving, while the female are more independant:) |
I have one female and four males, enough said.:p |
I have one of each and always will. I love both |
For us the choice came down to pee habits. Girls are just so much cleaner in this respect. I've had boys in the past, they lift and walk and pee in one swift movement and it splashes everywhere. If you care about pee mess or smell you may find a girl more enjoyable. |
