Table food for Yorkie Izzy begs my husband for part of his dinner and breakfast and lunch and snacks. Should we feed her some table food? |
I would keep it to minimum and just be aware of what you give her to eat. Veggies are ok! :D We give Gizmo one egg white for breakfast sometimes on the weekends too! |
Now, we try not to give Jersey any table food, but once in a while he will get a little taste. We were giving him much more prior to his neuter, then his blood work came back off the charts the vet said it was proably a bad lab read but it gave us enough of a scare to stop with the table food.:animal36 |
Well, there is a lot of difference between table scraps and people food. If done properly, you can give entirely people food, so yes, a few pieces won't hurt. This includes things like vegetables, some fruits, and lean meats. On the other hand, table food is usually full of salt and osmetimes fat. It is often fried with tons of sauces. These things would not be okay for the most part. |
I'll give mine people food if they eat their dog food, or they fill up on our food, and won't eat their's. |
Mine have never eaten anything except "real" food, but I make their food and only give them something I'm eating as long as there it isn't spicy or have onions. I don't give them any gravies. I just keep it really simple. I'm a vegan, and am now in the middle of transitioning them on to a vegetarian diet. I know it's the best way to go. Meat is very, very hard to digest, and since they don't live in the wild, but instead are just about couch potatoes, getting their inside exercise by following me around and spurts of tag with each other or I put them on the treadmill, then this diet works best for them. |
My Cooper only eats his dog food (kibble) and treats when training. Am I too mean? |
molly is a begger when we eat. she only wants to eat what we do. so some times i put her dog food on the table an feed her little bits of it . try to trick her into eating it. doesn`t work some times an then some times it does. she just plainly does not want dog food. she is driving me crazy to find some thing she wants. |

I've known people to do the Raw Food Diet and such, but I think it has to be one or the other. Quote:
there has to be a boundary. dog eating area, people eating area. |
molly is such a picky eater. eats something maybe twice an then shes done with it. i put her food out where she usally eats which was not at the table. she refuse to eat so i fed her wet food to her in her bowl on the floor by the table . i don`t feed her on the table. i`m just don`t know what to do with her. i have tried to out last her but she is so tiny i`m afraid she will make her self sick. i buy the best food for her but she just does not like dog food. i have spent so much money on dog food. it has to be grain free or i won`t buy it. no buy products. |

have you tried various foods? maybe she just hasn't found something she likes yet? it would drive me crazy too! what does the vet think? sounds like you got a real issue, but i'm confused. you say you don't feed her on the table, but in your last post you said tried to trick her into eating by putting her dog food on the table and feeding it to her? so maybe it's not on the table, but you're still feeding her FROM the table. it's a bad habit. |
Since reading posts here, we do give Jack some people food. For example, I give him raw carrots, celery, apples and peanut butter. When we have pizza we will give him a little bit of the crust. However, he does eat his kibble and gets treats for training. There is a post about the people foods here. I was just looking at it actually. ;) |
We always give Gizmo a treat when he goes potty outside and sometimes DH will say what a good boy he is and ask him if he wants a treat and he'll grab a piece of his kibble and give it to him, silly Gizmo gets all excited! I wonder how long it will be before he notices its his kibble! |
I used to be very guilty of giving Luna table food almost every time I was eating something. She got picky and wouldn't eat her dog food though so that came to an immediate stop. Now she just gets a little here and there. I don't think its a bad thing as long as its not something bad for them and not too much of it. Its always fun to spoil your dogs =P |
yes i have tried raw food. cooked her food . done just about everthing. she will eat it for a few times an then thats it. she is heathly . has all kinds of energy. vet says she is ok. it just that i have to keep finding something she likes. noooooooo i DO NOT FEED ON THE TABLE! I PUT HER BOWL ON THE FLOOR BY THE TABLE. feed her dog food to her. she thinks she is eating the same thing we are. some times it works an some times it don`t. she just don`t eat much food. she weighs 3lbs an is almost two. i guess each dog is different just like us humans. she has her dry dog food out all of the time. she will go get it once in awhile. we don`t give treats very oten. so she nots use to them. she is spoiled but i love her anyway. |
