Kissy might be sick =( Our little Kissy has always been a sturdy little dog. She was growing nice and stayed steady at 5lbs. About two weeks ago I noticed a little weight loss but didn't really think much of it. Earlier this week she was all skin and bones ... it's like she lost all her weight overnight. You can feel every single rib and even her hind leg bones. We took her in for a CBC earlier this week and my vet just told me there are some abnormalities in one of her kidney tests. He recommended that I stop feeding Kissy all the treats and to come back for another CBC in a week. He tells me it's nothing to worry about and that he sees this stuff quite often and most of the times it turns out to be nothing. But she is sooo skinny now.... I'm so worried.:( |
AWH!:( I will keep the both of you in my prayers. I know you are worrying. Your vet seems positive, and that's a good sign. |
I would get a second opinion. Sudden weight loss is not normal. I hope it is nothing but I wouldn't wait. I would want a kidney evaluation. In a week she could loose a lot more weight. Please keep us posted. |
could she have become anemic this exactly what Gatsby did when i had fleas he was fine lost a little weight and then it was gone and he could barely move it all happened in less then a week our little ones have so little blood that any missing is a big deal he had to have a transfusion and it took weeks to get weight back on him and even longer for him to have energy to play if this is it she needs treatment immediately even one day can be the difference between life and death no matter what it is i would not wait a week look for a emergency clinic in your area they can give you a good idea of what is going on |
Oh gosh, that is alarming. Maybe in the meantime you could really add in extras to her dry food like chicken and rice to get some extra calories in. I really hope that everything is ok! |
aw Im so sorry to hear this. I hope they figure out what it is and she gets better soon. Sending prayers and lots of yorkie hugs............ |
Special prayers for both of you. |
Sorry I never got to respond. We just got the results for the 2nd CBC and the kidney result numbers decreased. So this is good ... we're feeding kissy baby food right now and we stopped feeding her packaged treats. We still don't know why she lost so much weight but she stopped wet poopying. We're going to go in next week to see if she gains any weight. Thank you everyone! |
Oh, dear. That doesn't sound like a good enough answer, does it? What do you feed Kissy? Maybe she isn't able to digest it properly? Homecooking and adding probitics really helped my 14 year old Lady when she had a big weight loss. Has Kissy ever had a bile acids test? A thyroid panel? A simple CBC won't give your vet the whole picture. |
We'll be keeping Kissy in our prayers that she is okay. |
