Perhaps a bit morbid? But all of us will find ourselves in the position sooner or later of having to make a decision regarding our beloved furbabies' remains ... I just found out that WalMart - of all places! - is now selling coffins and urns. There are many options for pet urns, very nice ones, from wooden ones that will hold a picture to lovely pewter and cloisonne recepticles, and small "remembrance" ones, like hearts. I'm still reeling from my husband's death and trying to make his arrangements while so raw with grief. I think I will pre-make my arrangements so my daughter is not so burdened, and in that line of thinking, it may be nice to have my furbabies plans made, too. Just a thought ... Go to the Walmart site and search for "urn" if you're interested ... |
When your dog is expected to live 15 years or so, you plan on having to deal with death at a later time. But it can happen in the blink of an eye. I thought we would have time to deal with this as my dogs were only 7 years old, but we found ourselves in the position of having to make that decision last December. My Harley was attacked and killed and the vet hosp called and wanted to know did we want him cremated, to pick him up or have them dispose of him? We chose to pick him up and thankfully we had had a mild spell so the ground wasn't frozen. We buried him in the flower bed by the back door so he will always be close to us. We put a marker on top. It took a long time to go out that door again, it was just too hard. |

Just about this time last year one of my Yorkies fell into our swimming pool. She did not make it. I took her to my vet and he had her cremated. The business that did the cremation put her in an urn. I was very surprised. I thought I would have to get something to put her remains in. I was not looking forward to that. By the way...I now have a fence around my pool. |

My experience was the same for previous pets: the folks that did the cremation offered an assortment of urns - but they were expensive "inexpensive" pieces of plastic. These are nice. If you had them on a shelf somewhere, you could take a nice urn when the time comes. When it's time, I want my husband, myself, and all of our pets ashes mixed, then distributed. That way, we can all be together physically one last time. It's good that you have a fence around the pool now. They're hideous - but they can save immense heartache. |
