average weight of a 16 week yorkie Our yorkie weighs 3.4 pds at 16 weeks. I am hoping he will be atleast 5 pds, prefer 7-8pds, the vet isnt sure if he will make it to five pds because he was the runt of his litter. I want him to be heavier than 5pds because of everthing I've read about health issues when they are small. His parents weigh 5 and 7 pds. Thanks everybody!!! |
It is really hard to tell because genetics go farther back than just the parents. With his weight now, I would guess that he will be around his parents weights- which are perfect!! I have heard the rule to double the 12 week weight, and then add a pound... but this is also not perfect. I wouldn't worry too much about it, he is already 3 pounds, so he will definitely get bigger than that :D |
There is no average weight of a 16 week pup. As stated above many things factor in to the genetic make-up of your pup. Size is cannot be guaranteed, only estimated. Weight charts are pretty much nixed in the yorkie breed. If a breeder is line breeding they can guesstimate because they keep records of their previous litters. Health issues can happen to small and not so small yorkies. If he comes from a healthy background, health issues maybe minimal. |

I agree, it's confusing when it comes to clearly predicting weight. |
