When on walks, how far is too far? Bijou's only 18 weeks old now and since she's gotten all her shots we love walking. I normally carry her some during our trips, but today she wanted to walk and walk. We walked almost two miles. Is that too far for a little one her age to be walking? |
Hm, I'm no expert but I think it should be fine especially if she's keeping up fine. Walking is good! My friend's Yorkie was walking 3 1/2 miles or so at 4-6 months old, I believe. I think if she's willing & wants to.... it should be fine! Jackson is 1 year old but we walk quite a bit. He can keep up for 2 hours or more. |
I agree with Brit- she will let you know if she is going to far- by slowing down or panting hard. Just make sure she has water available and food when she gets back. |
Sorry my question didn't come out very well....I'm talking about bone development. When I had my dobbie as a baby (RIP Faith) I learned that she shouldn't run with me for like a mile or two, they can play, but not daily runs...Make sense? This was due to the impact it could have on their developing joints. I just wanted to make sure it's not too much of a long strech of a walk on her developing bones / joints. Thanks |

We usually walk til she just stops and lays down. I pick her up and carry her til she wiggles to get down and walk again. That's how our walks go:D |

So glad this was brought up. On our nice days I take Bella for a walk at a 1/2 mile at a time. She's 17 months old. I am a power walker and I let her set the pace. But like some of you, I wasn't sure how far to go before it would be to hard on her physically. Now I know I can go 2 to 3 miles. |
