HELP! I am a new yorkie mom?...and I need opinions fast! Hello...I go by the name of Ms. Sparkle! I will try to keep it brief. ;) I have always wanted a yorkie, but neva knew much about them; I was just attracted to their appearance and how they interacted with their families.:aimeeyorkI recently purchased my Dream (literally) on Saturday, 10/24/09 @ 1:30pm from a dog store in my area. :animal-pa When I 1st saw her liter, she instantly caught my eye. I touched her, but I didn't wanna pick her up until after looking at the other yorkies and yorkie mixes. (Ya know, I was afraid of the instant attachment...lol) But even after all of the other pups acknowledged me, holding some, I still resorted back to her.I wanted a girl! So now, afraid I had fell for a pup that I wasn't sure of the sex...I was praying that she was a "she"...AND SHE WAS! Yay for me!:p Now, I know her ears don't stick up correctly, she is having a lot of starter problems, I didn't get her from a loving in-home breeder, and she is my 1st. BUT she has grown on me and my family just that quick. I just pray that she doesn't have any health issues and that she will be able to come back home to me.:hands:

sorry your puppy is sick. :( i am not really sure what advice you are asking for? are you asking if you should return her to the pet store? or how to take care of your sick yorkie? can you be more specific? |

sorry you are going through this. i got my girl at a pet store too, and unfortunately she was sick too and still has liver issues. i had to do much research and seek help from lots of kind people to get my girl as healthy as possible. my suggestion to you is look for laws in your state regarding puppies bought from stores, not breeders. there is a law in CA regarding this and i ended up getting 150% of what i paid for her that went towards vet bills. it is unfortunate that most dogs in pet stores are from puppy mills and the pet store owners REALLY don't care about the dogs. it will be up to you to research and do what's necessary to get you're new baby better. good luck, Amy |
Hi Ms Sparkle! Welcome to YorkieTalk! Well, unfortunately your story is a very familiar one. My girl came from a national pet store and she had problems right from the start, too. Anyway, how old is your little girl? How much does she weigh? Did they tell you about Nutrical and hypoglycemia? There are so many things they should have told you, like... toy breeds are so different from other breeds. You can't let these little ones play for too long without taking a nap, eating and drinking. They're just like having an infant. They can exert soo much energy playing that you have to make sure they eat, drink and nap - frequently. I wouldn't call it puppy blues but they can get stressed from too much excitement and all the changes going on. I hope they take a sample of her poop and check it for parasites. Please check on here for a good shot schedule and other advice because there is so much to learn about these little ones. I hope your baby is ok. Please post here when you find out. Oops... I guess I didn't answer your question. Please look over your paperwork from the petstore very carefully. Mine required me to take my little girl to a specific animal hospital that they had a contract with. Also, I had to have her seen within 72 hrs by that animal hospital even if she was ok. You really need to know what that contract says they cover and what they don't. If the vet you have your baby at isn't the place they want you to go to they probably won't cover any expenses... please read it very carefully. Hopefully, there isn't anything seriously wrong. I looked at your profile page and you posted that your baby's birth date was in Aug. That makes her about 2 months old. She's really too young to be weaned from her Mom and littemates so that's probably a big factor in her health right now. You won't hear me say take her back. I could have never taken Mia back but... just be prepared to have some problems. Yes, unfortunately, most puppies from pet stores are from puppymills. Most - not all - will have problems. Puppymillers sell their puppies way too young and pet stores want them that way because they look so cute. I'll be praying for you & your baby. Mine are demanding my attention right now :) |
RIP Dream... Thanks for all the yorkie love everyone. Unfortunately, Dream did not make it! I took her back to the store where I purchased her from that Tuesday, because the store owner said he would make her all better; and to call him tomorrow to pick her up. Well, I had to call him Wednesday and he explained that the "vet" said that she had fluid on her lungs. He said it could have been something that I did wrong! I totally freaked out! To make a long story short...he could not produce a "vet" log/record/chart/receipt and he over reacted. He told me that he took care of her at the store and that the vet came there. I think he was fibbing. He decided my Dream's destiny! After 40 minutes of him yelling and screaming, he did decide to give me back everything, except $200. I did not have her that long, but I do miss her! |

I am so very sorry about your little one. If you should decide to add another baby to your family, please take some time and read up some of the information on this site to learn about yorkies and their needs. There is quite a bit to learn about their health and the many issues that could arise. Hot Rod was from a pet store and knock on wood, he's been pretty healthy, despite is luxating patella surgery on his one knee. RIP baby. :( |

I am so sorry for your loss. Yorkies can require special attention, especially when they are puppies. Your baby may have had issues before you ever took her home. If he didn't educate you with what to watch for, he may not have known himself. Since the shop owner was so defensive, I suspect he had something to hide. Florida requires health certificates, did the shop provide you with one? |
I am so sorry I am so sorry that this terrible thing happened to you. It breaks my heart to hear about what happened to Dream (cute name by the way). If you do decide to get another puppy ask people hear about a good reputable breeder, that way you will know you are getting a happy healthy dog. Again, I am so sorry for your loss :cry: |

Such a sad story.. I am so sorry about your baby. Please do as the above posters have advised and get info about these little ones before you get another. They truly are like having a child. |
