"Eyebrows"? This is probably a really dumb question, mostly because I don't know how to ask, but does anybody have advice about the "eyebrows" on a Yorkie? From various pictures that I've seen, some Yorkies have the hair trimmed above the eyes, creating kind of a "shelf" that keeps the upper facial hair and hair between the ears from falling into the eyes, I guess. Other Yorkies look like the hair is left long and the top knot is smooth all the way from the eyes to the top of the head. My groomer has been trimming my puppy's "eyebrows" but I think the smooth look is so pretty and more feminine looking than the "shelf" trim. If the hair is not trimmed above the eyes, how do you keep it from falling into the dog's eyes when she is not wearing a topknot (like at night)? Her next grooming is Thursday, so I have to decide before then. I appreciate any wisdom you have on this topic. |
I'm glad you ask this, I too will be anxious to hear what others do. My girlie is 9 mos, had her topknot grown out after months of struggling. She hated for me to put it up everyday when I wash her face and brush her teeth. The latter she doesn't mine, but oh my, not the putting up the topknot. When you take in down at night, it's always hanging in her face. So, one day on a whim, I cut her brows, took awhile to like it. But now, I'm thinking of growing it back out. How old is your baby? |
Well at bednight...it hangs in their eyes. To be honest mine don't even act like it bothers them to have hair in their eyes either. I take out topknots to help prevent breakage and put them in every morning. |
I kept Joey's hair short for a while, and still had a topknot, but I like the look of longer hair too, so I've been growing it out. Petsilk topknot gel helps in growing the hair out, and will keep the short hairs out of the eyes. |
Toby has a "visor" trim. I think it makes him look Manly. No way would he sit still for a topknot but I think they are adorable! |
Thanks Nancy, I'll be sure to get some Petsilk for the awful grow out stages. |
Abby is 7 months old. She has the visor trim, I guess I told the groomer to trim it out of eyes on the first visit, I don't really remember. Her hair on top of her head is long enough for a short topknot, it sticks straight up like Pebbles Flintstone. It's cute now but as she gets older I think I would like the smooth forehead topknot. I don't always put the topknot in every morning now and I will have to if it grows out. I always take the band out at night when I brush her hair. At first I had trouble getting her to be still (and trouble with the tiny little band!), but now she is pretty good if I am quick with it. I just cut the bands out at night rather than pull her hair trying to save them. |
Use those itty bitty clips to form the topknot. My boys HATE topknots and will not tolerate them. But those couple weeks before grooming I have to do something to get the hair out of their eyes, they do get eyebrows cut, but not a visor cut anymore, so I use those little tiny hair clips instead of elastics. They don't seem to mind them as much, they don't pull them out in 30 seconds and there is no breakage. Easy to put in and easy to take out each day. |
Thanks, I will try the clips. I have tried barrettes before, but at the time her hair was too thin and the barrette was too heavy and wouldn't stay in. Her hair is getting thicker so the clips may work now. |
