Chloe - Soon-to-be Spayed ....and I'm nervous!!! Her appointment is on October 30th; I drop her off first thing in the morning and pick her up that evening. The vet said they'd keep her over night if I wanted, but nobody takes care of her like I do! She'll be seven months old and I hate to wait much longer, but she's still so tiny! I think currently she's just a hair over four pounds. The vet is also going to pull her left over baby teeth which there aren't many of as far as I can tell. Anyone have advice for what I should have on hand when I bring her home? I'm going to buy a onesie to keep her in because I just don't think I could stand to put her in a cone. I've read you're supposed to wake them up every few hours or something during the first night, is this true? Or do I just let her sleep it off? Any advice would be appreciated! This is the first time I've ever had a dog spayed. :confuse8: -C |
She will need pain meds which your vet should give you. Onesies are fine for some dogs and not for others. Some like to chew through them to get to their incision, so while it's worth a try, she may need an e-collar. I stayed up with Ellie the first night (extreme, lol), but as long as they seem to be okay, I don't think you need to wake them up. If she is breathing normally and has pink gums, it's all good. :) |

Click on the link below my signature for an alternative to the plastic cones. I wish I had these when Maggie was spayed. She peed right thru her onesize. lol. good luck and please let us know how she does. :) |
My Laci was just about 7 months when I got her spayed... I did have laser spay done.. she didnt try to lick it or anything.. she was kind of out of it the first night home and I was a wreck but she was fine... she was just about 4 pds then. My vet wanted me to leave her there over night too, I said NO because no one is there with them and I wanted her home too!! I kept getting up all night with her to offer her water.... she was fine and back to her normal self after a couple days!! |

Thanks so much for the encouragement, everyone! I know it's a very common surgery, but still scary when it is your baby! -C |
Oh my good luck! I just went through this with Muffin. She too is small 3 pounds and had to get two baby teeth pulled. I hope you have a great experience with this! |
Well, I haven't gotten to pick her up yet but the vet called and said she is awake and doing well. They had to pull sixteen baby teeth!!!! I feel so sorry for her! :( I can't to wait to get off work so I can go get her! -C |
Wow, definitely make sure that you get some pain meds! Hot Rod had 14 teeth removed. Glad that she's doing well. Just give her some extra lovin's tonight. :) |
