Trying to find info on yorkichons.....anyone help please??? Hi, I just registered here because I have been searching for a place to go to find info on yorkichons. I put a deposit down on one and Iam supposed to pick it up on Thursday. I can change my mind and get my deposit back if I want. Iam just trying to find out anything I can on them....as far as any health problems, how well they get along with other dogs. I have 2 other dogs...... a westie, and a brussels griffon. I know this is a non pure bred dog, but that is fine with me. Iam so happy I found this site..... Thank you for any information anyone has :) |
The reason people breed for pure blood, is that they can be fairly certain what traits the puppies will have, however, when you mix breeds, it's all a crap shoot, they can get genes from this and genes from that, some are recessive and some are dominant, it's not really 50-50 appearance-wise or behavior-wise. Generally breeders breed mixes because they don't have breeding rights to the dogs, and neither dog is a good example of the breed, which further complicates things. If someone doesn't have a certain breed in mind when they are looking for a dog, I always encourage them to try the local shelter; they are filled with mixed breeds, many beautiful and even housebroken. Be careful, you might end up with a "bichen terror!" :D |
My daughter had a Yorkichon first & I just fell in LOVE with his personality. He was the Best to train. I got Bella almost a yr later. The breeder did have breeding rights & also breeds yorkies. They have the same father (yorkie), but different mother (bichon). They do look entirely different. They both have the sweetest personality, easy to train. They were both trained to use puppy pads with no problems. Bella is now 2 & she never has accidents in the house. She's a sweetheart! We recently took her with us on a 7 hr car trip & she was an angel. So far, no major health issues. I do LOVE yorkies! My stepdaughter has one that we adore. There is debate sometimes over mixed breeds. You are smart to do your research. It is your decision. I wish you the Best! Hope u stay with us @YT & share yr new baby soon with us......whatever yr decision may be!;) |
1 Attachment(s) This is a pic of Bella & Cole: They All get along wonderfully with each other! We babysit our granfurkids alot!:D |
Hello Bellas Mommy :-) Thank you for the encouraging words..... your babies are soooooo adorable! I never knew so many people were against "hybrid" dogs....I have been doing alot of research on the internet. I have read quite a few horror stories! I feel a little confused now. I was so excited to get him, now I am a little fearful. Everything I have read has said these dogs are very hard to train and they can be stubborn and not listen. Then I read where some have horrible allergies, which I deal with that with my westie. Your post made me feel sooooo much better! Thank you so much. I have 1 more day to decide :-) Thanks again! |

I hope my post didn't make you feel like I'm "against" mixed breeds, I'm against purposeful breeding of them because so many of them don't inherit the qualities that people want, and end up in the shelter. It really bothers me that our society is basically breeding anything, and killing off the ones that can't be sold, it just seems like until we have homes for these dogs, we should slow down on breeding dogs that many not inherit the "right" traits. |
Welcome to YT:animal-pa It's so exciting to get a new puppy and this site is very helpful to new owners so if you check in often you can learn a lot. Let us know when you get your little one and post a photo:). Jackie & my :littleangSophie :aimeeyork |
:welcome4: I can not comment on a the mix of a yorkie/bichon=Yorkieshon......but I have a 5 yr old pure breed Bichon named Frasier and Cooper and Chloe who are both purebreed Yorkie's. There personality's are day and night difference. Of course each dog is different, but Frasier is what we call a cat/dog....he sleeps all the time, very lazy, laid back gets excited maybe twice a month when the UPS guy rings the door bell....lol. He has been this way even as a puppy. He really NEVER barks, was super easy to house train and the most loving creature I have every known in my life. He does NOT have a mean bone in his body. My 11 yr old daughter has dressed him up in every outfit you can think of including wigs and sunglasses, he has been put in a baby swing, pushed in a stroller, etc and NOTHING ever bothers him. The bad side of this breed is the allergies!!! We have been through so much to help the poor guy. And he has a lot of anxiety issues. Cooper is total opposite, runs around like his pants are on fire all day long, wants to play ball all day until your arm hurts, can be a little nippy to younger children, and barks much more often, and is of course very territoral with his toys. When it is time for bed though he becomes a our little baby and then just wants to be held, and turns into a total love bug. Just thought I would pass along the difference we see daily. |
My Yorkie was only 7 weeks old when I got her. She started going on pee pads right away and I took her to work every day from the time I got her. She has only had two accidents on the carpeting at work and she is now 16 months old. She runs right for her pee pad when she wakes up from her naps. Easiest dog I ever had to train and I have always had dogs so not EVERY Yorkie is hard to train. She seemed to train herself. I was really lucky! |
