Pee Pads Training I'll be getting my new Yorkie pup in a few days and she has already started pee pad training. It sounds like she is doing pretty well. I, myself, don't even know where to start to keep her going when she comes home. Do you guys have an suggestions or lessons learned you could please pass on to me :) Thanks! |
Hi and Welcome to YT!!! You may want to keep her in a confined area, a kitchen or even an Xpen and with a pad or 2 down for her. Basics to remember: Pups usually will pee/poop within 30 minutes after eating, playing, napping, and waking up at night. Depending on her age, you'll be feeding her 3-4 times per day. This link may have helpful info and check out the YT library: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...w-parents.html |
WhenI first got Colt he was 10 weeks old and he was seriously peeing like every 10-15 min so I would put him on a pad every 10 -15 minutes. He got the hang of it after about one week if I just kept one near by where he was playing. Good luck! |
Our girl just kept on using the pads as she had been doing at the breeder's. I would suggest though that you find out if your breeder uses the washable ones. Our breeder told us that Taffy would just consider the disposable ones a toy to play with because they crinkled. From seeing how she loves to shred anything paper, I daresay we saved alot of manhours by always using the washable ones! |
just as everyone else as said above & also Praise, Praise, Praise! Welcome to YT & Congrats on yr new baby!!:D |
Keep her space limited until she knows enough to go back to the pad. This could take up to a year. |
Thanks so much for all your responses and the welcome. This is such a cool site! My breeder uses the washable pads so I better stock up :) I;'ve seen them online but I don't recall seeing them at any local stores? Have any of you seen the washable ones at the big chain Pet stores? |
