Winter Time? So as winter time is approaching here where i live, its october and we are already down in the 40's and doesn't get any higher than 45 on a daily basis.. so as its getting colder my 6th month old Yorkie Doesn't get as many walks as he used to. I haven't taken him outside in a week. Its just so cold for him to handle it even with a sweater on. is this okay? he doesn't get exercise but he runs around the house and play's a lot. its just waay to cold for him to be outside for more than 5-10 min.. probably as winter starts approaching he won't be able to go outside AT ALL. is this okay? or should it try to make an effort to walk him even in the freezing cold weather. He is my first dog so i really don't know what to do during winter. Also For some Odd reason my dog won't eat his food of his plate. he would rather eat it from the floor than his plate. he doesn't like it? i have washed it,cleaned it completely and still won't eat off the plate. is there anything wrong or is he just being spoil? One Last thing, i caught a cold. when im sleeping my dog tends to get up on my bed and just lick me to wake me up. can he catch my cold? thanks |
I still walk Jackson in the cold weather but his exercise definitely decreases during the Winter. I saw a tip on here in another thread that someone would throw a treat down the stairs, and the dog would go get it, going up and down the stairs! I thought it was a great idea. I also play fetch with Jackson indoors and he runs from one end of the house to the other, back and forth, fetching until he's tired out. :) Doggie clothing comes in an array of different things, they even have little booties, really warm coats, etc. I'd look into it ;) As for the food, is your dog eating out of a dog bowl or a plate? Try a dog bowl. Some dogs won't eat off of plastic bowls, but they will glass or vice versa. You don't want your dog eating off the floor. And dogs can't catch human colds as far as I know. |

Oh, and in a twist of events my cats will follow Daisy around and lick up any of the bits that have dropped out of her mouth. Is your dog eating in a distraction free place? |
ah i see thanks for the info, dog booties would look funny but ill look into them. As far as the bowl, when we first got him i bought him a plastic dog bowl for his food which he later did not like i guess it started smelling bad even after we washed it.. so i gave him a little bowl that we used and he used to use it but now all of sudden he just stop. i'm gonna run to the store soon and probably pick him up one of the silver looking one's or maybe a smaller bowl. He does get distracted every so often by someone or something so idk if that can be the reason, but he used to eat from it with no problem. |
When I brought Bella home I was using glass bowls, and her collar tag would hit the bowl, and the sound would scare her, maybe that's it |
