Housebraking troubles??? I have had my Yorkie since April. I am having an awful time housebreaking him. Is there anyone out there who can give me some tips. I will take him outside and the minute or shortly thereafter we come iniside he will potty on the floor. He does go outside but continues to come inside and potty also. HELP ME PLEASE. My husband is getting very upset with me not being able to train the dog, he doesn't like messes on the floor. |

How old is your baby? Does he have full run of the house? When you take him outside..Do you know that he might have to go or do you go on a time schedule? Usually when they start to sniff around thats the time to take them out to pee... after you see them drink water its best to take them outside about 10 mins.. The key is to watch him. take him to the same spot each time. I would wait him out too.. wait there until he goes pee and praise him after he does it. even if he pees just a little. he will get the hint after you repeat it. Its hard work to potty train, a lot of time and effort has to be put in it. |
I have had my Yorkie since April, too. She was born January 20th so she is now 8 months old. House training has been frustrating at best but with consistency we have been a week accident free. It seems like she now "gets it" and will stand by the back door and bark when she wants out. She is crate trained which is the only way my Yorkie even began to get it. Petsmart has great classes that deal with this. How old is your Yorkie? Don't let the dog have the run of the house. When you take your Yorkie outside say the same thing, "lets go potty" in the same tone of voice and carry a treat with you. Don't come in until they potty then praise lavishly and give a treat. It is a process and frusterating but when you are successful they are the most wonderful dogs. Hang in there and be very consistent. The rules can never change. Get Nature's Miracle, its the best! |
Yorkies have the reputation for being hard to house break- you are not alone!!!! Check out the training forum there is like 6 million potty-training threads, lol. Best advice: Small spaces constant supervision lots of praise when it happens outside consistency consistency consistency cath em in an accident say NO loudly and grab em and run outside and say potty :) good luck |
