Is there anyone else like me????? I have never considered myself a "dog person". We have had 2 schnauzers for the past 15 years (only 1 right now). They were my husband's dogs and I liked them, but I would have been just as happy to be dogless. Then we got Rowdy (for my husband, I might add) and OMG  I am totally and helplessly in love with this little guy. I had absolutely no idea that I could be so gaga over this little baby!!!!! :aimeeyork What IS it about Yorkies that can just so completely and totally grab your heart. Whatever it is - I  Rowdy!!! |
thats EXACTLY how my mom is! we've had a dog rusty for 8 years, and she likes him, but she wasn't a dog person. she is so in love with tucker, i can't believe it! |
I have to say I have always been a animal person, but my husband was not. The idea of getting ANOTHER animal almost did us in...lol. But with Bridget it has been diffrent, he cuddles with her and gives her puppy kisses :animal36 , and for the first time with any animal allowed her to sleep in our bed,(not that he had much choice.) Now he will still deny that he really likes her, but I tell you what when we went to Las Vegas (myself and Bridget) he asked daily how she was doing, and brought her treats and a toy when he picked us up at the airport. I dont know what the yorkie magic is, but I am grateful for it. |
:) :) :) Yorkie Magic - That's It! :) :) :) |
:lol tears And I thought we were the only ones!!! I too have always had a pet! Patrick had one as a child and after Nicole [who was just a "bonus" for him when we married] died and I would finally even discuss someday maybe having another pet ... he always said he wanted a Boxer ... a MAN dog!!! We realized because of all the travel involved with our work that there would be no big dog for us! He began exploring and learning about Yorkies ... he searched the entire country for just the right one ... he made all the calls, arrangements to meet with the vet & breeder! But we both lost our hearts at the same moment that those little black button eyes looked straight at us with that tiny little bit of her tongue showing!! :) Our world revolves around her and he makes no bones about it!!! ;) It is indeed "Yorkie Magic"!!! |
From the time I got my first dog (Tessa, My Cocker) I was in love.... and getting my 1st yorkie - Chanel, put me over the edge. By the time I knew I was totally hooked and how much I love her - we wanted another - Chanel was 2 and I didn't want to share her ....but it was the BEST decision I could have made...having 2 is double the obsession and you get double the love So yes...I'd have to say there are many people like you - :D |
That happen to me with Ruby . At firts I wanted a pom and then my sister begged me to get a yorkie. Well i agreed i wasn't to happy though and now that I have her I would change her for anything. I must add this is my breed forever and ever. |
And I love Ruby Cupcake's name! Is that a nickname or her real name? It makes me smile everytime I read it! |
:D I did not consider myself a dogperson. I grew up with cats! But I go gahgah over Trixie. I even let her stay in the bed with me sometimes ;) |

I think there are three things about Yorkies that grab me. First, they take themselves so seriously as "real" dogs, but they're actually tiny enough to be prey animals, so you admire them for their spunk and feel so protective of them at the same time. That just seems poignant to me. The second this is that they're sort of a combination between a dog and a doll. That seems so endearing to me. And third, they're so cheerful and gung ho about things. And that seems so wonderfully happy to me. |
Is there anyone out there like me? yes, yes, yes! I am new to the group and am loving every minute of reading these post. I too, had 2 dogs, (maltese and bichon) prior to getting my first yorkie. I did not know what love was until I experienced yorkie, puppy kisses! I now have 4 yorkies. My eldest yorkie just gave birth to 4 beautiful babies, 3 boys and 1 girl. What a treat! I look forward to learning from this group and becoming a part of the yorkie community. Thanks, for all of the interesting articles. Little-Bit, Meggie, Tori & Roscoe's Mom, Barbg402 |
It happened to me, too. I was Not a dog person. I liked them ok but not gaga over them. Obviously, things have changed. My husband wanted a tough man's dog. Guess what? He loves her. He falls asleep with her on the couch. He said that he thinks she is so cool because she is all the stuff you want in a dog... a great retriever, tail-wagging happy to see you, a great guard dog, etc. all wrapped up in this tiny little package. Plus for me she's like a doll that you can dress up and spoil. She plays rough with my son..tag and tug of war, then She likes to cuddle up with my daughter. We all love her so much. |
I did not grow up with pets. My mom did not allow it.She didnt like any kind of animal. When I got married I didn't want any pets in the house either. I hated their smell, I'd freak if they licked me. Now imagine all that but the total opposite!!!! After we got our first little furbaby Cookie. I've treated him like one of my kids.I think I spoil him even more sometimes lol. He sleeps all cuddled next to me.I'm always asking him if there's anything he wants and he tilts his head like saying " oh mom has lost her mind, I cant speak! " He kisses me all over, licks my hands and arms for a loooooong time! lol I wash his clothes, blankies and toys with my clothes. Then we got Mimi , she will lick your face off if you let her!! lol My mother " the dog hater" LOVES,LOVES, LOVES Cookie! Everyday when I talk to her she asks how Cookie and & Mimi are and what trouble they got into today lol. My husband treats Cookie like a real baby. Hubby has probably lost his mind. He's been trying to teach Cookie to say " Mama " lol Cookie was whining the other night so someone could play with him and everyone was watching TV. He kept on whimpering and pushing his little soccer ball towards me. My hubby started telling him " mama" over and over. Well Cookie would make these wiered almost whisper sounds. After hearing my husband tell him " Mama" a bunch of times....Cookie made a sound that made everyone in our family room freeze lol. He started trying to mimick my husband and was making sounds like " mwah mwah" I totally freaked out. My husband repeated it and Cookie did it again! "mwah mwah" I tell my sister about stuff like this and you know what she tells me? You need Jesus girl!! lol We're happy is all I can say! Yorkies have totally converted me into an animal lover. Yorkies will forever be my favorite breed. Genie |
I'm one of those people who needs to have a dog. I never had pets as a child so I'm making up for lost time! I was thinking about a papillon before I decided on a yorkie and I'm so glad I made the choice I did. They are such great little creatures, I can't imagine life without my little Chewy! |

We have always had pets so I have always been the one to take care of most of them. even when I was very young. But I have to say I feel a lot more love for my Yorkies. |
Well, I have to say that I have been a major dog person all my life. I had poodles and shepherds growing up and I have owned rotties, mixes, and a westie now as an adult. I obedience trained all my dogs as a child and even showed them in obedience trials. I also train my dogs now. I always wanted a yorkie but heard that children could hurt them so I waited until my kids were older before getting one. I had talked all these friends of mine into getting yorkies so when I finally got Hefner he had a built in palygroup and he still does cuz I couldn't stop at one and we now have four in the family. I would definitely say I am an addict!! |
These little guys can grab your heard. There are so many things that make me adore him: 1)The way he looks at me when I get home at work. His reaction shows that he is so happy to see me. 2) When I ask a question, he tilts his head back and forth 3) When he plays like crazy and then runs up to give me a kiss and goes back to what he was doing 4) The way my husband has become after getting Stomper. My husband loves our dog so much. We don't have children yet, but I know what kind of father he will be if he treats our dog like one! 5) The way he stretches out his back legs all the way back and looks up at me (and just sits there!) Too many! I can go on and on! |
I bought my first yorkie 5 years ago for my wife on Valentines Day. I wouldn't have a dog in the house up until she started asking for a yorkie. Well it didn't take long and I was in love with the yorkie bred. Well it's been 5 years and we now have 9 yorkies and 1 yorkie-poo. I can't image life without them. |
I know I really am not a dog person either I am more of a cat person. Yorkies are special and I am so glad everyday that i got one. I fell in love with the look of the puppies but I love my near adult dogs. |
I just loved reading every single post.I could relate to each and everyone. It only takes that one special dog to get you hooked for life. |
I am an animal lover by nature, but my yorkies are like my children! Even my skin kids get jealous over the way I treat my babies. My husband was always a "big dog" guy- we raised Boxers for years. But once he experienced life with a yorkie, he will never be the same! He treats them just like children also. (this just cracks me up...) he will refer to himself as "daddy" when talking to them! :D I find that so funny and endearing at the same time. To hear such a manly-man baby talking a dog! He even does that in front of other people- now that is a serious case of puppy- love!!! |
I liked dogs as pets, not children, until I got Chloe and Lacey. Now I don't want to go on vacation unless they go and forget leaving the house for longer than 2-3 hours, I just know they miss us. My babies are adored, my grown up kids can't believe it. |

We have always been dog people. I've always had dogs. My mom & dad use to raise Peks, even though my mom did all of the work. I can't ever remember not having a dog no matter where I lived. I guess the only time was the year I was away at college. That's it. |
iv never been a dog person, it was always cats, then i got my rosie and shes my 3rd child i lovvvvvvvve her soooooooooooo much she sleeps with hubby and me every night, i cant imagine life without her now wendy and rosie :rose: :yorkiesar |
Back when I was in high school (many years ago) I saw an older lady with a Yorkie named Violet and have wanted one ever since. They were not as popular back then and hard to find. My husband got me a Shih-tzu one year for Christmas (named her Holly) but I could never really get attached. Then we moved into an apartment and gave her away. Then we built a house and we got a Boston Terrier (Petey). He was cute when he was small but then he grew up. So for my 41st birthday I bought myself my first Yorkie. She was the cutest thing. Her name is Tiny Zoe Poo (Zoe). I am still in love with her and she is 6 years old. That same year around Christmas we went to the pet store and they had some yorkies. When we went back there was only one little boy left and I couldn't stand to see him there all alone so we bought him and took him home. His name is Charlie's Bitty Bear (Bailey). He will be 6 on Halloween. They give me great joy and keep me company when my husband is gone hunting. We have had two litters of pups but they have all died. I don't think Zoe knew what to do. Bailey fathered a litter with another female. We had him neutered when we didn't want to try for more puppies. Then earlier this year Zoe had to have a hysterectomy. I was really worried about her because she was really sick before the surgery, then I had to leave her over night which I had never done. Things worked out okay. Sorry this is so long. I get carried away |

We've had family pets in the past and loved them dearly but there is something so special about the love from my yorkies, nothing compares :luvu: . |
