Horses!?! Hey Everyone-- hope you all had a nice holiday, and for those of you that are off today, I hope your enjoying it! Friday I took Fiona and Honey ( boyfriends lab/pitt mix) with my brother, Brady to the park, well this park is really neat, it has lots of running/hiking/walking trails, a dog park which you don't have to have your dog on a leash, they have a huge pond they can swim and play in ( which i dont let my dogs par take, the water is just gross! ) well, they also have horse stables there....well, Honey walked right up to the horses with no problem, poor little Fiona, she wouldnt even come with in feet of them, my poor girl was laying in the grass about 2 feet away from the fence with the horses! Have any of your yorkies seen horses, and if so what was their reaction towards them!? |
My Yorkie hasn't seen a horse but I had a toy poodle once that had an experience with them. We were walking her at the neighborhood elementary school. She was really well behaved and we didn't have her on a leash. Someone on horseback rode near us. We turned around and Molly was running away as fast as her legs would take her. We ran after her and caught up to her sitting next to the door of our car. All she wanted was to get in and get the heck out of there. It was too funny. |

2 Attachment(s) LOL, that's *so* cute. Jackson LOVES horses. We live on 3 acres but our neighbors own the 90 acres of farmland behind us. They own horses and one time Jackson ran off (scared me to death) and went into the horse pen with them all. I still don't know how he snuck in there but thankfully, the horses are all really mellow and calm and Jackson was literally just wandering around inside the fence with them, like they were dogs or something, LOL. Just two days ago somebody rode by in our backyard (yes, this is how country it is, ha, even though the city is 10 mins away) riding a horse and Jackson was crying/whining/shaking because he wanted so bad to go see the horse. I don't have any pics of him w/ a horse, but here's one of him w/ a donkey... oh, and he's also been around sheep and goats! He's a farm dog deep down. :D |
Couver is scared of extremely large animals... He growls at horses. We once took him to Cabellas, and they had all the taxidermy animals on a huge montain in the middle of the store, and he growled at all of them. He was freaked out! haha It's kinda funny... |

I've been around horses almost all my life and most horses really like dogs. My dad used to have race horses and often the "stable dog" would wander around and somehow choose the most nervous horse to befriend. Some race horses also have roosters for stall mates. The only time horses do not like dogs is when the dog is darting around under the horses feet. They hate when they can't see what's going on by their feet. |

Over the years I have heard of a couple of yorkies that have been killed by horses. Horses are well know to kick at dogs. I would never risk letting my little dogs around a horse but that is just me. |
