I feel like a horrible trader I had a yorkie that I rescued about 2 years ago and during that time his separation anxiety increased dramatically. I worked less when I orginally adopted him and since then my hours increased slightly but it was enough to put him over the edge. It was a hard descion but one I felt needed to be made for his sake. I have been looking for a new home and after some time and a few interview I found a good home so I thought. She oicked him up on Sat. and they are having some problems all of which I told them. I told them all of his good and bad qualities. I wanted them to understand that he did have issues and was not the perfect little yorkie. We had many conversations. I am praying that with a little time everything will work out. These people are wonderful and I think they willl provide him with a great home. I just hope my baby will adjust. The problem is him being gone has actually restored balance in my home. I was beginning to have all the dogs forget their housetrainning and everytime I would turn around I was cleaning up accidents. It was horrible. There was some much anxiety amounst the dogs That I no longer enjoyed them. I felt like they were to much of a burden and I was so exhausted. I feel bad butI did not realize how much turmoil he caused. Now I am afraid this family may want to return him and I am not sure bringing him back here is in anyones best interest. I am not sure what to do. I feel horrible even thinking this way.:( |
Aww, don't beat yourself up about it. You had several conversations with the new people, so they should know what they're up against. Like you said, with a little time, hopefully things will work out. Will he be an only dog with the new people? And are they home more than you could be? Hope it all works out and everybody is happy. |
Did you get him from a rescue or did you find him somewhere else. If you got him from a rescue, why not see if they can take him back. Or turn him over to a rescue in your area. Where are you located? Giving him to a rescue if your best option as they have the resources to handle his behavior. I am sure he is terrified after living with you for 2yrs and now in a new home so if they are serious about him, then they need to be patient. How old is he? |
I did get him from a rescue but they are no longer in existance. I thought about placing him in a rescue but I felt if I could find him a great home that would be best. This family also works but she has the option to take her with him from time to time and the days she can't she comes home for lunch and her husband leaves later then she does so over all yes someone will be home with him more than here. He will be the only dog so he will not have to share the attention which was also a plus becuase he is so demanding of attention. I guess if this does not work out then I may have to place him with a rescue. I just feel terrible and like a failure becauase I love animals and also try to do right by them but in this situation it is not only his needs but the needs of the entire family fur babies and human. |
I'm sorry you're going through this. If they do return him I think I'd try to get him into a rescue. They are very careful when placing a dog. |
Awwww... What a tough choice you had to make, but truly it sounds like you made the right choice. I think it's tougher on us in situations like this, your baby is now an only child and can be the princess she knows she should be...lol It also sounds as if you were very open and honest with these people, I'm sure if they have any problems they will call you directly and you can help them work it all out. Maybe you should tell them about YT and we can contribute being a support group of cheerleaders. You made a good choice for everyone =) |
Thank you all for your kind words. |
If they want to return him it is your responsibility to take him back and look for another suitable home for him so that he does not end up as a rescue again. That is the commitment that you made to him when you rescued him.. I'm sure there is someone out there that will have the time and patience to deal with what ever issues he has. |
I just received an e-mail and so far he is doing better. I think she just needs to give him sometime to adjust. They are very nice people and I feel in my gut that he could be very happy with them. |
