Uni is acting weird!
 
and i don't mean her "normal" weird. This started yesterday and she's been doing it off and on. She'll look scared with her ears down and walk around close to the ground really fast and then just pick a random spot and lay down, like in the middle of the floor. She lays down very straight, chin on the ground, not like when she is sleeping in a curled up little ball. Then after a few seconds she will get up really fast and go somewhere else and do the same thing, again and again. If I try to pick her up she kicks me and wants down. She did it at the shop last night and at home this morning.

I don't know what is going on with her. She ate ok, but not great yesterday and today. The day before she ate A LOT, but just her kibble, but over what she usually eats. Poop and pee is normal. Anyone know what's up? I'm worried. :( She is napping now.

Joey was acting weird Sunday night, there was some shaking and we went to bed early, he just couldn't get comfortable in bed and every few minutes would find a new spot; no vomiting or diarrhea, and food hadn't changed. He walked hunched over, and he was licking his mustache a lot, (I guess this can indicate nausea), but the main symptom was the moving every few minutes. We took him to the vet Monday, and he didn't know what was wrong, he said it sounded like he had pain in his stomach, and we were to continue to give him some Pepcid, 1/4 of a 10mg pill, 2 times a day. Most of his symptoms were gone by the time we got him to the vet, and by Tuesday he was fine. The vet said that some of the things that could cause this would be fire ant bites or scorpion bites, or eating something strange, we really didn't see any bites and don't know what caused it, but when you described her symptoms it reminded me a little of Joey. The Pepcid seemed to help Joey, I gave him his first dose Sunday night before I saw the vet, and it took about a hour before he seem to have some relief, but it took about 5 hours before he settled down and could sleep.

Yea she seems uncomfortable, like she is trying to find a more comfy spot, but can't find one, so I'm thinking soemthing is hurting? She has not been outside, so I doubt its a bug bite. She started doing it last night in the shop after a customer came in. She usually likes this person. We were talking and Uni was getting mad we were ignoring her. She started barking like mad, then gave up, that's when she started trotting around.

Oh then I group of teenagers came in, you know how I love teenagers :rolleyes: They were standing around towards the back of the shop and when they left I saw a wad of green chewed up gum on the ground and Uni I think licked it. For sure she sniffed it, b/c she found it, that's how I found it. But she was acting weird before the gum, so IDK :confused:

It wouldn't be related to her acting weird last Sunday, would it?
The way she's acting doesn't resemble anything, but it's just a thought. I hope she feels better soon!

That would scare me, lots of gum has sugarless sweeteners that can hurt them, but if she was acting weird before they came in, I guess it wasn't that. I'm really clueless when it comes to illness, I just know that Pepcid is pretty safe and seems to help if it's stomach related.

Well she was acting a different weird last sunday :rolleyes: she had that foamy mouth thing going on but it went away after less than an hour, but other than that she seemed normal. Today and yesterday is like she's scared or something.

Yea I know gum is bad news, that's why I was worried. She is chewing on a flossie now, seems to be ok.

You know Nancy, I can't find a spider with long enough legs to make Uni that spider costume. I'm so jealous of Joey :p

They didn't have them at Walmart this year, in fact, they didn't have much of anything at Walmart this year. Last year they had so many different colors and types of these same spiders. That scared me more than the acting scared thing. But you have to remember that my boy is scared of EVERYTHING. So acting scared, hidding, wanting to be put down so he can run and hide, and piddling from fear are normal occurances at my house. :rolleyes: I hope you figure it out soon!

I had a little dachshund that would act like that when her back was out...Then I'd take her to the vet and he'd give her some steroids or muscle relaxers (not sure which now) and she would feel better...She always had back problems, and sometimes she was doing good, and other times, not so much...Maybe have the vet check her out on Monday....

If she continues to do it, I'll have her vet check her out. If she stops then i won't take her. I already bring her in for every little thing and he thinks I'm crazy. :rolleyes: well I am crazy but you know what i mean.

Oh that one looks great! i got one from joannes but it was too small and looked really cheesy and it was more expensive. I'll try Michaels too.

I agree walmart has NOTHING in this year. Not even dog costumes, only tshirts.

Trying to spend some time not stalking Uni and look what I missed???? Did you check her anal glands? Is she okay today??? Update!!!! Please!!!!!!

Nancy: Love the spideydog thing... 1 question: is he supposed to be a spider or is he being eaten by a spider? JK! I had a vision of doing my 3 as spiders but I don't think I could handle it for long! Arachnophobic!

this is just like what ella is doing!!!!!! spastically moving every couple minutes trying to lay down. But ella got spayed friday so I am sure that is the reason.... I think something is hurting uni's tummy :( maybe she had surgery and forgot to tell u lol jk

my mix did something close she would jump from pice of fureture to piece of furneture and lay down for about 30 sec and jump back up and go on to a new piece when i took her to the vet i was told she was going into heat and trying to find a place she could be seen by my other dogs so they would come and mount her could she be in heat

I don't think she's coming into heat, it's too soon after her last one. and I kept promising myslef I would get her spayed but money's so tight right now. But I doubt it's that. she has stopped doing it. I did checke her glands, and there's nothing in there, all I feel are her bones LOL. maybe just her tummy was bothering her for those few days. She ate a whole lot the day before. I think she pooped like three times that next day. :rolleyes:

You can add green beans to her diet if she seems constipated or has some really hard poo. Did you get her those BBQ treats you wanted to try? Mine get hard poos after eating stuff like dental chews, or if I don't add water to their food. I realize that after pooing 3x she's not constipated ... but in the future ...

This doesn't sound right for a spay ... you may want to call your vet or have her rechecked ... JMO

1 yr. old Yorkie just got spayed.
 
We just had our 1 year old Yorkie spayed a week ago and she is acting really weird. She is usually playful and cuddly, now she acts like she is paranoid. She is really jumpy, runs around really low to the ground and lays down. She is not eating normal either. A few nights this week she has woken us up by her vomiting, but nothing ever comes out. I also noticed that she is constantly shaking (more than the normal Yorkie shake).

Does anyone have any ideas? Anything would help. Thanks!

You need to start your own thread, if you want the best answers, but when you have a procedure done such as this, you've paid for follow up treatment. Call your vet and ask about this, some females get a bladder infection after a spay. The crouching behavior is a sign of pain, and not eating normally is also a sign of pain. Dry heaves, can be a sign of nausea and pain as well. Shaking can be due to hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, and this could because she's not eating enough, but infection can also cause hypoglycemia, and this should not be ignored. Please call your vet as soon as possible. Nutri-cal, or white Karo syrup, can raise the blood sugar, but protein needs to given to keep it from dropping again. Tell the vet everything you have posted here.
