yorkie and cats this is breaking my heart we have 5 yr cats..WERE so loving and friendly lap cats entered our puppy now one cat stays upstairs ( its been a yr since she's been downstairs) other cat comes and goes but wont be social and puppy is constantly chasing her now the cats have statrted peeing and pooping anywhere. have automatic litter boxes for yrs...same litter Im at wits end? any suggestions? |
I don't know about the litter box situation, but over at my dad's house, they have 2 dogs (when I visit with Jackson, it turns to 3!) and the cats never come downstairs when all 3 dogs are there. Jackson can't resist a good chase with a cat, either. He loves being able to just sniff and greet the cat, but the minute the cat runs.... he's off! Maybe try to introduce them slower? Hold the puppy, let the cat sniff, etc? |
You should take your cat for a complete exam . My grandmother's cat is used to her Yorkies but recently began to act weird ( peeing and pooping out of the litterbox ). She brought her for exams and the results were that the cat was very sick . I don't say your is sick but for safety , you can take an appointment with your vet. |
Yeah I would take the cat in for an exam too, just to rule that out. I think cats either like dogs or they dont. My moms 2 cats HATE peanut. One even got his eye under the door!! I would be careful with your cats and your yorkie cats can be very mean and yorkies from what I have seen dont get bothered by it. Peanut loves my Mom's cat's he always tries to go up to them. She will hiss at him and raise her paw at him and he doesnt get it. So I have to seperate them. I think just bc your cats are friendly with you doesnt mean they will treat your yorkie the same way. They might be peein and pooing every where bc they are mad. I would just say let the cats go where they want and try to keep them away from your yorkie until they are nice with him. |
Aww ... your cats are getting stressed Your pup is just trying to play and do what puppies always do This isn't sitting well with your cats tho try to socialize them togther If your pup starts seeing them as more than just things to chase It might calm down a bit |
Sounds like a behavior problem resulting from the new puppy. It make take time but I would only allow the cats and puppy around each other for shorter periods at a time. It sounds like your cats are stressed from the new family member and it may take longer for them to get them use to having the puppy around. |
My 2 male cats were 13 years old when Lilly, the 8 month Yorkie came to live with us. They HATED her to pieces. In the first 6 weeks, they pooped in my closet, my bed & on the floor. In the 13 years I've had them, they have never peed or pooped outside the litter box. I gated the upstairs off so they could have some peace & had to move the litter box upstairs because they wouldn't come down. I've had her for a year & a half now & they have finally started to come around, but as soon as she sees them, she chases them. One of my cats is getting better, but the other one is still very scared of her. She taunts him & it scares him & she knows it. The cats seem better, but that fact that she is even alive just makes them mad. I too was very sad at first since my cats were THE only animals around for so long. I work hard trying to give them equal time, but she is a very demanding little thing. Good luck with your – I sure hope it works out. |
