Question about males?? OK heres my situation. I have Bells and would love to get her a playmate. Well actually hubby is checking on getting another which is surprising because Bells chewed the door frame of our new house!!!! :2omg: :2omg: But no matter how he acts like he doesnt like her, he is the one looking for another, Strange I know. His friend had a female which had two male pups. My question is, are they hard to train and do they hike leg up and pee everywhere? I absolutely dont want babies as i would have him fixed .Didnt know if that would make a difference on hiking leg or not. With those of yall who have males any info is greatly appreciated. |
I have 1 male and 2 females. My male was "fixed" at about 6mo. He was 2 in June and he still doesn't lift his leg to pee. He squats. Soo cute!!:D That's just my experience. I'm sure there are others who could give their opinions. Good luck. |
Josh does not mark in the house, and he does not lift his leg to pee. I neutered him before he started to display those male behaviors. |
i have a 7 month old girl and a 5 month old boy, she is spayed ,he isnt yet, he does both but i keep a really good eye on him when he's in the house and when we go walking of course he tries to pee on every pole he sees ,lol but if i let him out to pee he squats. |
I had Motley fixed at 6 months and he doesn't lift his leg either. He squats which of course my 9 year old son finds hilarious:rolleyes:. He was extremely easy to train and the only time he pee's in the house is if I'm accidently gone to long. |
I have a 10 month old male, he is not neutered yet, and he does not mark in the house. But I plan on getting him fixed soon so he doesn't get any ideas. I love my little boy, he is so affectionate. Mommy of Harley:aimeeyork |
I find that most people think boys are easier to train. I think they're more affectionate, laid back and trainable. That's obviously not ALWAYS the case but I'm partial to boys! :) Jackson was neutered at 6 1/2 months old and has NEVER lifted his leg indoors once. He will mark outside, but it's not excessive. Only on trees, etc, where other dogs have been. |
I have found that if you neuter them around 6 months, these behaviors are not displayed. Good luck! |
Cooper was 2 in July and does not mark inside the house at all. I am NOT kidding you when I tell you when I got him as a baby he was already hiking his leg. Our first visit to the vet she had told us that Yorkies are soooo territorial that if I did not get him fixed by 6 mos I could have years worth of problems with him marking especially since I already had another boy dog at home.....not sure how true that is, but I was NOT willing to take the chance. He HAS always hiked his leg but has NEVER marked anything......even when we go to visit my brother who has a boy and girl yorkie, he is territorial over there with toys etc but has never marked. Now outside let me tell you hike and pee, hike and pee...he has to pee on everything but inside he never has and I have never had to do belly bands or anything, I personally attribute this to having him fixed at 6 mos as it was recommended. FYI-I have a boy bichon that NEVER hikes his leg, he is 5 years old and still squats so not ALL boys will hike. |
I have seen 4 month olds that leg lift so I like to have it done before they go to new homes but a lot of vets won't let clients have it done on their dogs before 6 months. I wouldn't wait much past it because that is usually about the time testosterone becomes the driving force for the behavior. I think larger yorkies may have this a little later but each day you're taking a chance and once it starts, you can't stop it. JMO |
Sam is potty trained on the pads and outside. He will be 3 in November and squats. I got him fixed soon as soon as I could. He has never hiked. |
:eek: Wow is Peanut the only one that lifts his leg??? I got Peanut neutered at 4 months.. He wont lift his leg on anything in my house, but he will lift his leg sometimes to go pee on his pad.. I have to keep the pad away from the wall bc he will lift his leg on it. He will lift his leg on EVERYTHING outside as well. He does lift his leg when we go to other people's houses if they have dogs. So I have to watch him. If they dont have dogs he wont lift. |
Our little guy is 11 weeks so he is still very young, but he already knows 'sit' and 'off'. We are still working on the other commands, but I have been very surprised at how fast he picked up those two commands. He sill squats when he goes but he is still young. He may or may not lift his leg, we will see. ;) |
Neither of my boys (16 and 11 months) is fixed, and they both do lift their legs to pee - most of the time. Tank will just squat in the mornings, I'm assuming because he has to go so badly, haha. They do know better than to even consider peeing in the house, and they know outside is the ONLY ok place to do it. I think as long as they are taught where is and isn't ok, the peeing thing isn't a huge deal. My boys were very easy to train - they both learned sit, lay down, and touch in about 5 minutes for each trick. Just be prepared to use lots of little training treats :) |
Wicket was lifting his leg to pee from really young....he was neutered at 6 months, which was the youngest my vet would do it. He still lifts his leg - but only out doors. He was very easy to house train, especially compared to Twinkle who is still known to have the odd accident indoors :rolleyes: |
