Our hearts are braking... We brought Emmitt home last Friday evening. He was with us a whole week and this past weekend my hubby started struggling with his asthma. We bathed Emmitt twice, used some conditioner on him and washed his bedding. Nothing seemed to ease my hubbies allergies to Emmitt. After much thought and considering building my hubby a house out back for him to live in, we decided that the best life Emmitt could have was with a family that could enjoy even his dander. So sadly, Emmitt is returning to the breeder who has found him a nice home to live in. We are going to miss him like crazy! He such a sweet pup. Needless to say, today is the day Emmitt goes to his new home and my hubby received a call this morning that is Grandpa died. What a day! We are officially the grieving house and will be for quite some time. |
I am sorry you are going through this but living in a building by himself is no way for a Yorkie to live so you are making the best decision for your little one. Sorry about your Grandfather also. |
I'm so sorry for both of your losses!! When we first got Yogi, my asthma and allergies started acting up. I started having full-blown asthma attacks for the first time in years. Believe it or not, it has gotten a lot better. I can pick Yogi up and give him kisses without any reaction. Not sure if my system got used to him or what, but something similar happened when I first got my cat years ago. I eventually got "used" to him. |
I am so sorry this has happened to you and your family. It must be so hard to give up little Emmitt. This is about the third thread regarding allergies and Yorkies. I'm amazed because I always thought, no dander, no fur, no allergies. I am also sorry about your husbands grandpa. When it rains it just seems to pour at times. |
Yorkies don't have 'dander' like other dogs and cats. If your husband is having trouble it's probably because Emmit is still a puppy and he's losing his puppy hair. The soft puppy hair is lost until somewhere around 8 to 10 months I believe. Yorkies have hair like humans so when his adult coat is all the way in I bet your husband will be fine. Is there a family member or friend who could keep him for you for a while and see what happens later? I mean could they keep Emmit...not your husband...or, well, whichever would work best I guess! LOL! ;) |
So sorry you have to go through this. Both myself & my daughter have allergies to animals. Sushi has bothered us alittle. My daughter is now on Singular & a daily inhaler. Myself I use my resuce inhaler alittle bit more the lately, cuz the windows are closed now. I've been researching air purifiers. Hoping that will help. |
Sorry you had to give him back. She was joking about building a house out back for her husband nt the dog. lol |

That is what I heard, too. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. My husband has asthma and allergies, but so far so good. His allergist recommended a Yorkie and that's how we ended up with Sydney. My husband is on Singulair, Clariton, and Advair. I wash Sydney once a week in allergy shampoo, rinse her twice a week, and use Allerpet on her in between. I also have doggie wipes for after she goes potty. I bought a new vacuum with a pet hair attachment (Shark Navigator) and I spray allergy reducers on the floors. I think this is the cleanest my house has been since we got Sydney a month and a half ago. I am very sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how painful it is. On top of it, your husband's grandfather died. Again, I am so, so sorry. |
I am so sorry for your losses!! |
Yep, the house out back was for the husband not our little Emmitt. Thanks guys! You all are wonderful. If it wasn't for my mom going with my girls and I, I know I wouldn't have been able to drive us home. It was one of the toughest things I ever had to do. It killed me to see Emmitt licking the tears from my daughters cheeks. |
I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this. But you did the right thing for Emmitt, the brave thing, and indeed , the most heartbreaking. |
I just saw this thread. I am sorry for your loss of your grandfather and also sorry you had to give up your new little pup.:( I dont have asthma but I have severe eye allergies to our little guy and we just got him about three weeks ago. Cant take a lot of allergy stuff. I am hoping when he grows his baby coat out it will get better as we have a two year old yorkie and no problems with him. They say yorkies dont have dander but this little guy sure does. We clipped him down and he has dander. We wash him once a week and do the dog wipes ,vacuum etc etc but i still have a lot of trouble. Anyway all the best to you .Giving up a pet is so hard to do. |
