Need some advice: ID collar OK?
 
None of the books I read mentioned it so I need your help to answer my question. I know that we should never attach a leash to our furbaby's collar and that we must attach it to a halter instead. OK got that down but what what about an ID collar? Is that OK? If not then where does an ID tag go? Many thanks for your help with this.

Jackson wears a collar w/ an ID tag all the time.
He is walked on a harness. :)

Peanut is walked with a harness, but all his information is on his ID tag and thats attached to his collar.. :thumbup:

I do the same with Couver. He always wears his collar with id, and he wears a harness when he is on the leash. I don't like not having id on him, so I feel most comfortable this way :rolleyes:

I was hoping to hear that very answer. I couldn't imagine what else one would do but then I started feeling anxious and thought I'd better ask. Thank you all so very much!!!

Callie has a collar with her id tag and her rabies tag on it but I never attach the leash to it I always use a harness but she always has her collar on unless getting a bath incase she gets out some how.

We do the same. We use the break away collors and attach their rabies and ID tag on it.

Fiona has a collar with an id tag on all the time, except when I put her in the crate, i take her collar off. When we go for walks, she has her harness on. Her harness has her rabies tag and another little name tag on it. Fiona's ID tags ONLY have her name and my phone number on it, i dont put my address or anything on it......but always take the harness/collar off when in a crate, just in case it gets caught on something, i'd rather be safe than sorry..... :aimeeyork

I have been wondering about the collar for ID tags, also. Daisy is microchipped and I know she needs to wear her tags, too, but am afraid if she did get loose that someone might catch her by her collar, not knowing how fragile their little necks are, and pull her. Does anyone else share this concern?

I'd rather have my dog possibly get a little neck damage (but may not even get any) and be returned to me, than if a person couldn't grab my dog, and him get hit by a car, or something. I think it's worth it. Jackson is microchipped, wears a collar with tags, and his harness also has my phone number and his name on it.

None of my dogs are microchipped, and a lot of people aren't even aware of what that is, so i would have ID tags on your dog as well. It is a shame to even have to think someone would take a beloved pet from someone.....

:goodpost:Thats the reason Tia does not wear a collar without supervision. She has in the past got her bottom jaw caught in the collar and it was real difficult to get it out. :(

We bought break-away collars for all of the furkids after that so we could have their id tags on them when we took them out of the house but they never wear them inside.
