Need a good idea/car So as you all know Peanut is very spoiled. He goes everywhere with me, I would say 99.9% of the time he is with me. You would think he would be use to the car, but he isnt. He is only happy if he is in the front seat with me in my lap! He doesnt just sit there either, he HAS to look out of the window, and sometimes he will jump over to the passinger side too! If I put him in the back seat he will just pant and shake, I tried putting his bed back there and everything... I dont know what to do I am so worried if I get in a crash or something GOD FORBID something happens to him. Where do you put your furbabies in the car? I need something where peanut can be by me and look out of the window... or he wont be happy :D and of course something safe. |
I'm eager to hear any suggestions as well. Sophie absolutely loves to ride in the dar, but climbs up on the back of my neck and lies there so that she can see where she's going! Drove through window attendants at the bank/pharmacy love it, but I know it's not safe! Looking forward to suggestions! |
I've seen dog car seats that strap onto the passenger seat, are elevated and have mesh around them kinda like a playpen. It would be good to have him attached by harness so he wouldn't jump out. I have a similar problem, but have 4 dogs in the car, and 2 of them insist on being on my lap. I know it is dangerous for them and me, and I don't take them a lot, but when I do, I have to find a safer solution. I'll be watching for replies here too. |
We have the Snoozer car seat. I am posting a link below to show you what it looks like, there are several different options/models but will give you an idea of what they look like. Cooper LOVES to ride in the car, but he wants to fly back and forth between the front and back seats, he is a wild man in the car. Everytime we go to the vet she tells us of another sad story of Yorkie's dying in car fender benders/someone slams on there breaks not even a wreck and the poor baby goes flying causing head trauma. Based on that we spent the money and got the snoozer bed so he could look out. I tried some of the cheaper ones at pets mart that look like a leather carrier/pouch that they set in and did NOT like those at all. The snoozer is very safe, you seat belt it in like a baby seat. For Cooper to get used to it, I bring it in and left it by the fireplace in our living room with a treat in it like a new bed. After he had slept in it a couple of times that is when I put it in the car for him to ride in. Would he rather be in it? No, he would rather be flying around barking at everything back and front seat, but he does NOT hate it....and I no longer worry about taking him with me and something happening. Morgan is always hooked into her carrier when she's in the car. it doesn't matter if she wants to be in my lap or look out the window. its not safe. she is safe her in carrier so that's where she stays. there are car seats you can purchase that attach to the console or passenger seat. these have straps you can attach to their collar/harness as well so they have to stay in them |
I've got a Snoozer II Lookout. Sophie LOVES it. It comes with a strap that can also hook to a harness so they'll be safe. I actually don't strap her in because she's more comfortable. I know, I know. I'm a BAD mommy! But seriously, she has been soooo much better since I got that. She stays in the front seat and I put the AC on her so she'll get some air. |

Peanut does the same thing as Cooper, but Pnut goes from me to the pass side.. it drives me crazy!! And I hate having him like that bc it isnt not safe!! That thing looks really cool!! What size did you get? Peanut is 4 lbs what size is Cooper? |

Cooper is 5-5 1/2 lbs and we did NOT get the small. I honestly cant remember if ours is a med or how they run but it takes up my front seat which is fine with me since I dont allow my daughter to ride up front due to an airbag. This is what ours looks like. Snoozer Green My Buddy Lookout at PETCO |
this post kinda makes me laugh b/c of all the "talks" my dear boyfriend and i had when we got our yorkie Sophie. First of all he did a ton of research on car seats for her.....bought one and she wouldn't stay in it. So we tried a pen, like what she sleeps in only smaller for her to travel in. it is strapped in the middle of the backseat (that was the "rules" i was given: it must stay in the backseat and be anchored with the seat belt) of my suv and she can still see out and be comfortable and cant squirm her way out. but this is a serious issue b/c i would hate to see her hurt in an accident. so i hope this helps you. |

I have a car seat for Harley that is made by Pet Gear. From what I can tell it is made very similiar to the Snoozer brand (have only seen them online), but I like the way that the seatbelt goes through the bottom rather than the top and the price being lower is a bonus too. I have the medium and it only has one guide to attach a harness to. It is a nice size, pretty well takes up an entire captains chair! Harley loves it and I feel much better knowing that he is secured. Oh and if you don't mind a patterned cover you can get a heated version too! Car Seat suggestion? The links that were posted were awesome. Does anyone know where I can find one that is used on the console or hanging on the seat? (like the skybox on petgear) If it's just me and Sasha, she can be put on the seat, but if it's the whole family, she would be put on the console. |
I can't find a skybox made by petgear so I'm not exactly sure that you are talking about. I'm assuming that the seats that are designed to attach to a headrest would be too square to use on a console, so I'm not sure that you could find one that you could use both ways. If you are limited on your space I would just go ahead and get the console one that way your baby would always be close! If I had two babies, I would have to get two seats because there is no way that a double would fit on my seats and can't imagine putting my babies on the third row! Just remember like a human baby in a car seat your furbaby can be injured by the airbag! Jeri and Harley |
Daisy gets nervous in the car and likes to sit on my lap. Then she tries to sit on my husband's lap while he is driving. Back and forth, back and forth. So I got a Snoozer (reg size) and it fits just right in the back of our Ford Ranger. The little fold-down seats face inward. I put the seat belt around it and buckle her in. She can look out the back and turn around to look out the side window. It calmed her down and she just sleeps most of the time. Best Pet Bicycle Baskets, Dog Life Vests, Pet Seat Covers, Dog Trailers, Dog Beds, Dog Car Seats We used the Snoozer in the house as a little bed for a couple weeks and I gave her treats in it. Daisy is 7 1/2 lbs and has plenty of room in the regular size. Gas abtibe used THE TUBE??? Looks kid of interesting. |
Apple has a car seat for dogs, and she loves it...She has her harness on, and she is hooked to a little strap, so if I were to stop fast, she'd be safe.....She can see out of the window, or sleep, if she wants to...But, if she didn't like it, I'd still make her stay in it, because if she were in my lap, and we had a crash, even a small one, the air-bag would probably kill her...I have her seat as far back as it can go...The best possible place would be to have her car seat in the middle of the back seat, but I feel pretty good about her where she is...If I went on a long trip, I believe I would put her in the back seat... |
I found this one on allpetfurniture.com. It is a Pet Gear - Console Booster Pet Car Seat in Black for 37.99 plus shipping. Has anyone heard of this brand. How do you think is looks? Safe? Thanks Jeri for your advice. Thanks peanut for posting this thread. http://common3.csnimages.com/lf/1/ha...t+in+Black.jpg |

Outward Hound Car Seats I have Outward Hound car seats for Breese and Punken. They are attached in the back seat of my car, one by each window, so they can see out. I bought them at Petco a few years ago. They have adjustable straps that secures them and gives them enough room to lay down or sit. They are secured by their harnesses. These turned out to be the best investment for their safety. I put their little travel blanket in each seat. I was on my way to Arizona to visit my son and little Breese decided she wanted to escape. I had adjusted her strap and gave her a little too much lead. Need I say, I pulled over to adjust the strap on shoulder of the freeway and it only took about 20 seconds. Jumped back into the car and by the time I hook my seatbelt, a CHP was at my window. He asked me if I need help and I told him Breese had escaped in the back and was just hooking her up. When he looked the girls in their car seats he just started laughing. He said, " I've seen it all now". He told me, you take better care of them than some people take care of their children. Punken doesn't like the car but when she's in her car seat and at window level she fine. Just thought I would share this with all of you. Kathleen... Mom to: Punken Pie:aimeeyork and Breese BeBe |
Thank you so much for your carseat information. My Biscuit is 9 years old and has now decided he really wants to go for rides in the car....but he is quite a handful...he barks, cries, jumps from seat to seat. I will be buying a snoozer as soon as I can figure out what size to get...he is almost 11 lbs and is a large yorkie. I am sure he will be much safer in a carseat.:animal-pa |
1 Attachment(s) Couver has a carseat and sits in the back seat. It is really not safe to have it in the passenger seat because of air bags. He travels there very happily and even gets the window rolled (only half-way) so he can get some fresh air. He loves it! |

Yes, Couver can see out the window perfectly. I let him hang his head out too sometimes :) |

I just ordered the Pet Gear console seat for Sasha from overstock.com. I'll let you guys know how she likes it. Hopefully she does because it's safer than sitting on me or the console by herself. |
Hi, I have the skybox type but I got it at Petco for about $50. My 9 lb guy loves it. I have it in the pass seat and he can look out, sit and lay down and sleep. Of course I have the seat pushed all the way back because of the air bag. I feel much better with him secure in his seat rather than in mine while I'm driving. |
I have a PetFlys carrier for each of our yorkies. I strap the carrier into the seat and open the front. Inside it has a clip that I clip on to their harness that keeps them secure. Our pups love their carriers and will sometimes jump in there just to take a nap. :) It has become their comfort zone and is great when we spend the night at places. |
