Summer haircuts?? What haircut is your yorkie sporting this summer...I had "ragtag" Max cut in a schnauzer cut....his hair mats so easily.....his top knot had to go......it was too stressful to untangle it even with conditioners and silicone spray...can't get used to his little bald head.... but the cut is cute. I had the groomer leave a "skirt" of fur on his sides.....having his bottom shaved is great....I think he thinks he looks pretty sharp too.....he does look like a teeny tiney Schnauzer.....next time I hope I can keep some of his head hair..... Oklahoma gets hot and muggy....so it is more practical.....but I admit I love all his long hair...too. Max's MOM |
Did you check out Otis's haircut? I just posted some pix under "Otis" in the "My Yorkie" forum. I did it myself!! |
Wow, you are brave Junebug! :) Good job too, looks very salon-like. Yoda's all shaved except for face and tail. He looks like a cat at times now. Heheheh |
You did such a GREAT job on Otis' haircut!!! I could never get Higgins to let me do it.....even the groomer had a tough time. I love the Schnauzer cuts on the boys! And it is soooooo much easier to deal with, especially in the summer. And for us, in the winter, too, as we camp all winter long. Anyway, I think they look cute! And that scary picture of Otis is a winner....You should enter it in some contest somewhere...... |
I really like the Schnauzer cut too! I like long hair on the feet and legs (baggy-pants look) Couple of years back, I went on vacation and Otis stayed with my aunt. Well, when I got back, his legs and feet were shaved down! I thought it looked ridiculous, but she said it was all tangled so she had to cut it. It made Otis look like he was tippy-toeing, like a baby lamb! |
I like the baggy pants look, too, and that's what Higgins has..... |
Junebug....you go girl :p Otis is cute as a button...you did a great job....I can't even trim the hair around Max's eyes....it terrifies me and him.......how do you get him to stand still.....and what do you use to cut the hair....and how hard was the first time ?????? I'm impressed!! |
For small cuts, we have two people working on Yoda. One to just hold his body still. And the other to cut and hold his face still. And we talk to him gently the whole time to ease him along. We just use basic scissors (not sharp tipped at all). First time was insane, we only do small trims ourselves... |
I love all the cuts ... and consider them ... but, alas ... it's "bath day" for Toto. While I consider a short summer cut every single week before I groom her and once a month before the "pro" grooms her ... we still have all our hair! We both enjoy all the brushing so I guess Miss Prissy Paws will stay long [at least for a while longer]. Her coat is almost to the floor and since she doesn't spend much time outside in the heat, so far, so good!! ;) I must confess ... the biggest reason of all for not going with a short cut ... is me ... I can't stand the thought of my baby not looking like my baby!!! |

I use a Wahl buzzer on his body, and some small scissors around his eyes. He's sooo cute when I cut his bangs and the hair around his eyes! He sits there with his eyes closed, really still, like a human! I know it's strange, isn't it?? |
Please give Otis a big hug and a kiss from me! What a good boy! We started brushing Higgins when he was very small. Brushed him faithfully every day. And he seemed to tolerate it well, even liked it. NOT ANY MORE! And I don't know why! We never hurt him when we brushed. It just seems that as he has grown up, he has become just like a little boy and DOESN'T WANT ANYBODY FOOLIN' WITH HIM! Little tough guy attitude, though he doesn't bite. The groomer said that NO WAY would he tolerate the clippers anywhere near his face, so she did his face with scissors and it was a real challenge. $30 challenge. Here's our current problem: His tears runneth over and make little eye goobers. I try to gently wipe them each day with a damp washcloth, per vet instructions. NO WAY! Even with Don holding him, he won't put up with it. We have sort of worked our way around it by doing the wiping while playing tugsock, but that doesn't always get the job done. Do your kids have dried tears and how do you keep their little faces soft and clean? Also, Higgins has really TOUGH whiskers! Actually, they support his mustache and beard nicely. You can't see them except when he has "bedface" in the morning..... |

Yoda's Mommy is rough with him when it comes to wiping and brushing. Thus, he has to tolerate it. She holds his face still and wipes the tears, I guess since she does it at least twice a day (since we've had him) that he's gotten used to it. Yoda will fuss when we try to cut his hair and especially his whiskers. Could they be more sensitive? Usually, I hold him down while his Momma cuts it. But he'll fight us the whole time... |
I have always groomed Lacey & Lindsey and they will always have long hair. They have been good with the long hair and seem to enjoy having it whether Im brushing, trimming, or just doing a massage. Maybe its the female instinct, ha ha ha ha .There were times when I had to give them different bows, just to tell them apart quickly, but now we can tell easily where others can't. There are a lot of yorkies that do not have the long hair and people are always asking me what kind of dog they are but they also comment on how beautiful they look and I think they actually "love the attention" ! :) |
