Considering going back to school for .... Grooming. There's an online course I've been considering and to be honest it would save me and my family a fortune if I could do this myself. 5 dogs and a cat plus I've considered donating some time at the local shelter and this would give me an exploitable skill set to provide. Plus a part time income. In these financial times it's helpful to have eggs in multiple baskets. :) |
I say Go For It!! I think its a Great Idea!! |
i looked up some classes for grooming the other day. i just want to learn so that i can do it myself and feel comfortable, but the classes were so expensive. good luck! |
I went to grooming school this past year. It was online and onsite. I went to Nash Academy in Cliffside Park, NJ. I started the online courses at the end of december 08 then did my onsite starting at the end of March. I finished school at the end of May. School was pricier then i thought but worth it. I got a full time grooming job mid June and have been working there since. which school were you looking at? |
I had no idea that grooming schools would be so expensive! I lost my job in June and thought about going to grooming school. I would like to put my own shop in but think it would benefit our rescue as well. Just don't know if the investment would be worth it or not but I am checking with some local schools and then will make a decision. We only have one groomer in our area and she isn't taking any new clients. Mine have an appt for every 5 weeks and if we miss that one then we have to wait until our next 5 week appt. So, I think that I could stay busy enough. Hmmmm....what to do? |
How expensive IS it? |

Pet Groomer | Penn Foster Career School Right now I work 2 shifts of daycare. I have had my own in-home childcare for 25 years. I was also looking at their CDA courses. I may do both since it will be an improvement if I do both. I was thinking I might be able to stop doing second shift if I do grooming a few hours a night instead of a full second shift of kids....... |

Right around $700.00 Not awful in comparison to some places.... and the payment plan can stretch it out nicely so it won't hurt as much. :) |
Considering all the kidz you have...that is a steal! When I take all 3 of mine it costs me about $130, incl tip. |
Do they teach how to keep the dog still so you can do the grooming? |
online courses are great and all but you need hands on training as well. its all well and fine to read how to do it but when you have that dog on the table who isn't like the picture in the book then its a whole different ball game. |

'Sorry I thought you were asking how much for the course. That's $700. For each small dog it's $28.00 plus tip and for the cocker it's $40.00.... plus tip.... Luckily I only have 2 Yorkies so $50.00 every 3-4 weeks. |

I know. I'll eventually need hands on book learning is not a substitute for real life experience. I figure that's what my friends dogs are for. :) My problem has always been time to actually GO to school. I work 5 days a week from 6 am to 11pm.... and no one has classes on Saturday so online is my only option. |
