How big will she get - thread #2 Our Yorkie is 12 weeks old, and weighs in at 2.2 lbs. How big is she going to get at full age? Anyone have an idea? |
the rule is double the 12 week weight I have read this in many places, though my vet said to double the 4 month weight... |
I was wondering the same thing when my Poppy was a tiny puppy. The vet said it depends on genetics and the size of the parents, although I've read conflicting articles about this on the internet. I looked at this chart: Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow Poppy was exactly 2lbs at 13 weeks. Now at 23 weeks, she's 4lbs... (I suspect a little more and a lazy vet nurse doing the weighing) so I really don't think this chart is an exact science. Her mom was six pounds, her dad was five...so I'm assuming she'll level out around there. Every time I ask our vet, I get the run-around saying not to count her as "full grown" until 1 year, although usually by 6 months, they won't grow any larger. I'm not sure how accurate this is, either. I'd be interested in seeing experienced replies! |

I remember looking at that chart when i first got Pixie at 14 weeks (1lbs 7oz) and thinking; omg! she's going to be tiny!! I was hoping she would get over 4lbs but she's a very petite 3lbs at 2 years old. The chart was actually pretty accurate for her. They say to triple the weight at 8 weeks and to double it at 12. She has a very slight frame...but i don't worry too much about weight now as she is a little piggy..she LOVES her food and she's very bouncy, happy & healthy. |
