Puppy Plan I called my vet today, just to double check hours, and that they "see" small breeds, etc. I happen to be on the internet to get their phone number and saw a feature that read : "Welness Plan" and It got me wondering... Do any of you use this type of plan? It is worth it? Would you do it? Advice please.:animal-pa This is a list of what it covers: (I copied it from their website) Puppy Wellness with Spay or Neuter Puppies under 1 year of age All vaccines for enrollment period Up to 2 Fecal Tests per enrollment period Up to 2 wellness exams per enrollment period Unlimited medical exams and rechecks per enrollment period Puppy manual/CET sample/Flea comb Emergency window decal Dewormings (oral medication only) Spay or Neuter Includes pre-surgical health screen, coag panel, IV catheter and fluids, microchip, laser, surgical monitoring, pain medications, e-collar, surgery, anesthesia and hospitalization $1100.00 value Option One: Prepayment $927.50 (Care Credit 6 months same as cash available) 15% savings Option Two: Initial Prepayment of $250.00, 11 monthly payments of $69.00 (10% savings) Additional fees apply for any illness related diagnostics (NO EXAM FEES) and all products |
I have Couver on the Wellness Plan at Banfield Vet in Petsmart. I did not pay anywhere near that amount for the year (mine was around 300-something for the whole year), but the plan I have him on was definitely worth it. I do not know if I would feel comfortable taking him there for emergency care, but they are good for the everyday veterinary necessities. I do not know what vet you are going through, but that seems quite high for a year of vet services. Maybe someone else on here would have an idea. |
I also have the one from Banfield in petsmart. I went there for her shots and spay and everyday stuff. It totaled around $300. That was ell worth it, but ince my year is up she will be going to my regular vet for everything. |
Thank you for your info. I have gone to the same Vet for years, and didn't think to check prices. Just for the spay alone they quoted me $220-600, depending on pre-surgical blood work etc. I live in Michigan, and they are a Vet and Hospital combined. I will look into some more! |
I'm not sure how prices compare by area, but that seems like a pretty good deal. Unlimited medical exams is a great bonus! The neuter or spay alone would be at least $500 with pre-op blood work and everything. |

You may want to check VIP Insurance. I just signed up for it yesterday don;t have too much experience with it but I'm going to try it for a year and see what the savings will be. Jersey Boy was neutered last week and microchip total cost was about $475.00 and from the info I have on VPI part of that would have been covered under the wellness plan.:animal36 |
Jersey Boy, thanks for the infromation! I will see if I can find anything on it. |
Just make sure you read the fine print on these contracts....Heaven forbid if your little one dies for whatever reason it is my understanding they will not let you cancel the contract and you must continue to pay. Some banfields are good but you also need to check out their reputable for the one you want to go to. Also double check what happens if you have to go to an emergency vet...will they cover any of that? Good Luck with your decision..:) It is so hard to try and save $$$ and do what is right for your little one... |

My Vet will cover ALL visits for the period they are covered (one Year), the only thing they won't cover is the cost of Medication. I am torn, not sure what to do. The Cost to spay is almost half of the amount for the whole plan, not to mention the $45 for each visit for shots etc. Too bad its Sunday or I would be calling around today. |
I had the Banfield plan at Petsmart for both my dogs the first year and for Gypsy the 2nd also. It pays for itself the first year and was good for Gypsy as she had health problems for awhile. We are in the process of looking for a new pup and will get the plan for the first year with this one. The cost of spaying alone makes it good for us. |
Wow I'm on the Texas Gulf Coast. Surprisingly that price is high for our area. Kimbo will be neutered in November and the price is $68 plus $25 for bloodwork. He's 5 months old and we've had all of his shots there since he was 8 weeks old (except for the other rabies he's getting @ 1 yr.), bought all monthly frontline plus meds and heart guard meds there, treatment and visit for an ear infection and worms (@ 9 weeks), and had 2 emergency room visits. Total including neutering is $411. I am also planning to have him microchipped which will be an additional $30-$35. I'm glad you posted the information, though because I know so many areas in the US have outragous prices. I'm glad there are companies who care enough about our furbabies to offer affordable pricing. |
