Best temperature to keep house This may be a stupid question, but here goes. What would you recommend to keep the thermostat set at in your home. I don't want my babies to get a chill, but I don't want them to be to hot either.Just wondered what was best. |
umm..... if your cold then they are cold. if your hot then they are hot. |

I live in California...Corona. And I will always leave the thermostat at 75, I have done that temp for a while now and it seems to work really well. He isnt too hot and he isnt shaking. |
Lol, only on YT would people worry about setting the temperature of the house for their dogs! :p I think it's important to keep newborn puppies warm, but most adult yorkies are comfortable with the same temperature you are comfortable with. Joey's breeder said, when you need a sweater, they need a sweater, so he has some cute little sweaters for when hubby sets the AC too low. :D |
i keep mine on 69-72...unless i have babies and then i try to keep them in warm room...away from vents with a heating pad..and i wont but the thermostat any further then 72 |

my husband is a heating and air man...he likes it COLD...when we were dating it was so cold there was parciptation on the windows half way thru the night..LOL he is better now...the puppies will snuggle down together under clothes or blankeys when they get chilled...its cute to watch all three snuggle..the youngest will growl when one moves =) |
Thanks for all the advice..I thought the same if I am cold they are cold, that makes sense I am just paranoid about everything. I have got to learn to chill out a little and not be so overprotective.LOL |

I put the heat on yesterday. I am always cold and Buddy is always warm. I swear, whenever I touch him his body is warm! He's a bigger Yorkie so maybe this has something to do with it. Or he has Italian blood like everyone else in my family, except me. When I'm home the thermostat is set for 70-72 when I leave for work I put it down to 68. I can't get him to sleep under the blanket's either. He stay's on top! Drives me up the wall! |
remember dogs temperatures run higher then ours. they are normally 101-102 degrees. so they will always feel warmer to us when we touch them. |
so happy to find this 1 Attachment(s) Quote:

I'm cold-natured so I keep the house about 75 degrees. Dallas is usually comfy but Rory steals my heating pad every chance she gets. Sometimes she'll pretend she wants to cuddle but as soon as I move a bit, she cuddles up with the heating pad. lol |
I'm really cold natured, and keep the house up toward 78°. Given how I take my guys hunting and how messy they can get, I have always clipped them pretty short. (#7 - 3/8") Even through the winter, they generally lay on top of the Blankets, but occasionally fluff/flip them up and make a depression. I just thought we were warm enough, until Navi (Chihuahua recue) showed up  She is the coldest natured Dog I have ever seen ! She will put her nose under her blanket, flip it up, and dash under it before it falls. Then, make a couple circles under the blanket, winding up with just her little black Nose sticking out. Several times when I check on her, I've had to use a Flashlight around the perimeter of the Blanket to see if She was actually there. :D |

I keep mine one 68, and they have blankets. I stay hot all the time! |
Silky Hair Yorkies get cold just like people with fine hair Well, I have a 5 1/4 pound Yorkie. If it's chilly in the early a.m., I put on one of Taffy's Velcro jackets or sweaters. When he comes back inside on really chilly mornings, I barely get his leash off when he dashes through the kitchen and snuggles into his fluffy bed in his open dog crate in our den...now, he still has the coat or sweater on! He may also jump onto the folded soft blanket on the rocking chair...he wants that coat or sweater left on until he is warmed back up! I end up turning up the furnace heat when Taffy & I get up, since my hubby likes to keep the thermostat down at night and we use separate, electric bedroom heaters. Taffy has a soft dog bed on my bed, but if he's chilly, he skoots under my blanket and by morning, he is resting his head on the pillow next to mine! Then too, my dog's breeder told me if you are chilly, your dog probably is too...especially the Yorkies who have thin, silky hair. Just put on your slippers without any socks...if your ankles feel chilly from the cooler air that stays against all floors, then your little guy is down there in that cooler air on the cooler floor, too. Taffy loves his sweaters on cool days, of course then, I get to brush his hair to get out any snarls from running around while he's wearing a sweater. Ha! |
I have my house set at 72 in the winter AND I have been keeping my little 4 lb guy dressed in something all hours of the day. He's been spending a lot of time in his pj's but I make sure he has a sweater or a sweatshirt on if he doesn't have pjs on...and when we go outside, I definitely bundle him up!! My older guy used to get cold easy...but since he's gained some weight and got older, he no longer gets cold like he did. It could be the meds he's on too...but for some reason, he's stayed fairly warm this year so far. |

Personally, 75 is way too warm in the summer. 71 seems perfect... In the winter tho it gets so cold! 78 is ok tho with sweaters. Billi has sweaters & blankets, she should be alright. |
