Tax break for pet owners http://www.thehungersite.com/clickTo...n=HAPPYAct3501 Families all over the country have been forced to give up their pets because of financial hardship. H.R. 3501, known as the HAPPY Act, would help Americans provide their pets with the medical attention and quality of life they deserve by making up to $3,500 of qualifying pet care expenses, including veterinary care costs, tax-deductible. This way, pets get to remain in their loving homes and don't wind up on the streets or in the already overburdened shelter system. |

WOW that sounds really nice!! |
Would this be per animal in the household? Or just one set amount per household? Of coarse that amount alone would probably be more than enough for my 3 horses, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. Loretta |
Has this bill been approved? We had a thread awhile ago about this proposed bill. A lot of us sent e-mails to our congressmen and senators. But I hadn't heard that it made it through the House or Senate. |
That's absurd! Of course, I can think of lots of other ridiculous things our tax $$$ pay for too, so it really doesn't surprise me. |

It's all a matter of opinion, but I personally don't think that pet care is something that people should get tax credit for. |
on a lighter note Turns out my dad, who is going on 90 and way beyond the IRS statute of limitations used to always deduct vet bills on the income tax. I asked him one time, years ago about deductions and he casually stated, that vets had doctor in front of their names and the bills had doctor names and clinics on them and the medications and diagnosis all sounded good, sooo worked for him, it was all medical, wasn't it? He just lumped it all in with all of us kid's medical bills.. I was shocked....then I laughed.... |

It is expensive anywhere! There are some areas though that are totally outrageous. I have seen that in rescue...some people pay so much more than others, but none are cheap. I just found out last week that I am the top client at my vet. *shudder* ... They were kidding with me because I had recently sent them Godiva and they said they should be buying it for me. I am there all of the time with either my own pups or my fosters. Crazy. You really do not realize how it all adds up. |
This sounds good. When I actually live in the States permanently and pay taxes, it will be nice. I remember someone posted something about a credit card for vet bills. Has anyone ever heard of this or used it? It also sounds like a nice option. |
Thank you for posting this. I signed the petition. :) |

You are probably talking about Care Credit. Some vets accept it and some do not. Also there are varying rates. Some vets offer a period of time that is interest free.....BUT you must pay the bill off in that time or you get hit with high interest. Some offer low rates. It is all what the vet offers and Care Credit maintains it. You can check it out at www.carecredit.com |
