ive been to look at puppies i went to look at a litter of puppies yesterday. mom was 2.5lb and dad 3lb. babies prediced to weight wetween 2lb and 3lb. 2 girls and a boy. 1 girl(the runt of the litter) deciuded she was not going to leave my laces alone haha. they are 9 weeks old and breeder said then can go anytime now. well i put name down 4 the tiny girl. going to name her Sapphire and going to fetch her later today! so exited ii have found out all of Isabelles old puppy clothing out so she has some haha. i really cant wait to go fetch my new girl. Isabelle will be coming with me then going straight to the vets lol sooooo exited!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! |
It is wonderful that you have found a puppy. How very exciting! But please be careful. I searched high and low to find the perfect puppy. I found her and the breeder said she would be 3.3 to 4.5 lbs grown. She is now 5.5 months old and only weighs 2.3 lbs. She will probably not reach 3lbs. Right after we got her she fell off our back porch and broke 3 bones in her foot. I came to find out after I adopted her that the little yorkies have very fragile bones. We have to be extremely careful with her. The fall was not that bad but she is so small it didn't take much. I was heart broken when it happened and wish someone would have told me before, ow very very fragile she would be. She is very healthy, just small. If the mother of your pups is really 2.5lbs and dad 3, your puppy will be very very small. I don't figure she will get to 2lbs, but you never know. I was told after I got my Fiona that 4.5 was too small to breed a dog and that is what her mother weighed. Dad was 4lbs. I am not sure what the breeder was thinking when they bred a little girl that small, maybe it was an accident but anyway I wish someone had warned me. Just please be careful. Yorkies are wonderful dogs but with the really little ones they require so much more attention to keep them safe. There are so many stories on here about broken bones and other horrible things that happened to little yorkies who had wonderful parents. It can happen so fast. Not to mention the heartbreak and cost. I hope this doesn't still the fun, just wanted to tell you what I wasn't told! Hope this is a wonderful day for you and good luck!! |
IMO 9 weeks is way to young to bring home one so tiny. Give her another month with her momma PLEASE!!!!! |
:wavey: Hi! :welcome4: Love the name, Sapphire. I'm sure she'll grow to be quite a gem for you. Owned by Fiona is right, there is extra precautions that need to be taken with one so tiny, but knowledge is power and you're in the right place to learn a lot about the care of Yorkies. YT is an endless opportunity to learn. Good for you to go straight to your vet, that's a smart first move. Just remember to keep her up off the ground or floor wherever you take her until after she's had all her shots. Can't wait to see pictures of her!! :) |

I have a friend that lives in England and she picked up her silkie boy at 9 weeks too, then she got a yorkie girl same thing, I do beleive is the norm in Europe. Congratulations on your new baby.. |
Congratulations on your new baby. Personally, I would not buy a puppy from a breeder whose ethics are such as to breed a 2-1/2 lb. female. |
:eek:2.5 pound mother is wayyyy too small to be breeding. Be sure to check around about the breeder before purchasing the pup. The super tiny pups are very fragile. If you have already purchased her, just be sure to have nutrical on hand and possibly a dog sitter when your not home. |
Personally I would not get a dog that small. Too many risks and yes they are so cute  but not so cute when you have 1,000$+ vet costs. If you research the tinies you will see all the information on them, please think about it before committing to a HUGE HUGE commitment. |
I have two 9 week old puppies now and there is no way they are ready to go to another home. The boy doesn't even have his front teeth yet!! Their mommie spends a lot of time playing with them and, more importantly, reprimanding them. I agree that you should wait until she is 12 weeks to get her-- even a little longer if she is extremely small. Good luck with your new puppy!! :) |
I love the name Sapphire! Congrats on your new little baby! |

When I saw 2 1/2 lbs mom my eyes almost fell out of my head! My god how small is the puppy you are bringing home? Europe or not the little one must be so tiny. :( I hope your are very prepared to address an issues with such a tiny and young puppy. Do you work? I would be scared to death to let her out of my site for one second. :( |
Most Europen Yorkies are more solid and bigger than the ones here in the states. Breeding a bitch this small is sad.:( |
i did ask why the breeedr bred off such a tiny mom but she said the dog caught her when she was in heat which is why the breeding happend. mom and dad have been tested by the vets. yes i am prepered for the tinies and reserached them. Isabelle was smaller then that when i brought her home. she said the main reason the pups are going so early is because she is going to calafornia due to her mom being in really ill. i know people who have had puppies from this breeder and they have all been very healthy. yes i do work, im a vet nurse!! my baby will be kept in the isolation unit which is very warm ect when i am at work, until she has had all her jabs. i will be treating Sapphire exactly the same way as i did Isabellle. |
Congratulation on your new puppy. 2.5lbs is a really small size to be a mom. As other warned you, a dog so little will be a lot of extra care. Good luck and all the best. Make sure to share a picture of her with us once you get her!! :) |
