taking your dog with you OVERSEA Hi, I'm hoping to take Bambi with me to vacation this December. Has anyone brought their dog oversea? Any problem at the customs or Agriculture health department when bringing them back into the US? We are thinking about going to China. I just hope there won't be any problem when i return....... |
I am going to China in December. You can't take your dog with you -- they will be quarantined @ a national facility in China for six months and then if you return, they will be quarantined again in the U.S. :( |
i researched a bit on China, the quarantine is likely to be done at home, with spot visits by inspectors. they have probably changed their regulation from the last time you check... I'm just worried about whether anybody had experience, or have heard pets go left the US and wasn't allowed to come back.... |
from dogfriendly.com China- While some citizens in this country are animal lovers, dogs have little or no rights here. Use extreme caution if bringing a pet to this country. We recommend you do not bring your pet into China. This is some prior info I gathered when considering bringing Stewie into China... At Customs in China you need to provide a residence at which you will be living with your dog (not a hotel, they won't accept hotels). You need to declare them and then they will be quarantined for 15-30 days depending on their size and weight. After that, you need to pay $200 to get them released from the state quarantine facility and you need to take them to a local police station in China to have them registered - only a resident of China can register a dog. In my research, I think its just too risky/dangerous to bring them there. |
Thanks for the info. I also saw that info on the web. I just called USDA, they will be faxing some stuff about going to CHina with a dog. I'll let you know when i receive them! |
