When is it safe to take puppies outside? Luna has had two rounds of puppy shots and is due for one more next week and after that I'm not sure how many more she has to go. I was just wondering when they are pretty well protected? I just don't want to take any chances so I never ever take her outside for anything unless its just to go to the car. Thanks for the help! :) |
My vet told me that I could take Missy outdoors 48 hrs after her last set of shots. |
Yeah I assumed that was ultimately the safest time but I thought I would check and see if there was some magical answer :p |
:hearts6:I just wanted to say what a good mommy you are to truly care so much for your baby to keep her safe. I see people 3 times your age everytime I go to petsmart with there "brandnew" baby's letting them down, around other dogs etc and it just baffles me....anyway just wanted to tell you Luna is lucky to have you take such good care of her! |
Aw thanks so much! I did a weeks worth of research before I got her on how to train, groom, everything I could possibly store in my brain. Which came in good use when I ended up with a hypoglycemic dog with seizures. Shes a happy healthy girl now :] but I really want to do good with her and have her live a long life. I had a VERY very very hard loss when a family friend gave me their dog without telling me he had never had shots. He got sick and died right in my arms, I didn't think I would ever be able to leave bed |
I agree with the 48 hours after the last set of puppy shots. BUT ask your vet as they are the experts. I'm wondering how old your baby is? My Bijou's 14 weeks and at our last visit my vet said she has one more set. Which means she'll end up with 4 sets of shots total. But they only give her 2 at a time. Does your's give more than 2 at once? They do ours 3 weeks apart too. Just curious as to whether we're giving too many shots here in VA. |
She is 16 weeks old :] almost 17. My vet is a very very old man ready to retire so hes never very chatty I honestly don't know how many shots he gives her just that they are always 3 weeks apart. I'll be sure and ask next Wednesday and I can let you know then! |
Hummmm, Luna looks small like Bijou. My vet advised that they are too small to give them too many shots at once, so she only gives her 2 at a time...Oh, maybe that's the reason for her wanting to give Bijou 4 sets. I'm sorry your vet's not very chatty. You ever think of a different vet? Just a thought if you're not happy with him. |
Yeah I would like a new vet! I've been looking around but I live in the middle of no where hes the only one thats not three hours away unfortunately. Hes not bad, he prescribes us medicine for her seizures and does pretty good I would just like him to let us know whats going on. He doesn't tell me how many more rounds of shots she has he just schedules the appointments and if you ask hes not very good at answering lol! So this one next week will be her third round and after that who knows haha |
Luna is such a doll...I would wait 10 days after l6 weeks shots. Last shots to be safe..You have a cutie pie.... |
Thanks a bunch! Shes so sweet I just love her. |
Ahhhh, I understand....sorry! I'm very lucky to have a lot of different vets to chose from in my area. I've tried out a lot of them too, until I found my current one. My only concern is that when we first started with her 4 years ago, it was just her. Now there are three other vets on her staff so I have to ask specifically for her, which sometimes due to our schedules I have to use the other vets which are ok, but not Dr. D :o) |
Ohh yeah that makes sense, I may be moving soon hopefully that will open up more options =P. |
