therapy dogs So now that im home from settiling my grandmother in her nursing home i started looking into getting gatsby in a class for therapy dog certification and i found out that most nursing home only require the canine good citizen test and its only ten bucks at petsmart so i think we will start thear and in a few mounths when i have a little more money ill put him the real therapy dog training and then we will go to hospitals by the way my grandmother is doing so well they are sending her home for christmas we are all very excited exspecially gatsby:D |
Cute! Wow, they offer those for only $10 at Petsmart? What do they have to do in order to pass? Unfortunately, I have a feeling Jackson wouldn't be a good therapy dog or else I'd love for him to do that. He's very shy with people, and won't let just anyone come up and pet him, without sort of backing away apprehensively (unless he know you!) :( |
morgan loves people and i think would be a good therapy dog except for one thing. she cannot sit there and calmly greet some one. she gets so excited that she bounces around for a minute. she doesn't jump on the person usually, just around them. |

AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program that has the requirements on it i was worried about gatsby passing but he already dose everything so perfectly and i have no idea who taught him that (good breeding i guess) but he actually very laid back i heard that is unusual for a yorkie but he is the only one i know so its normal for us the test its self is actully ten small tests and they each have slightly diffrent requirements Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger Test 2: Sitting politely for petting Test 3: Appearance and grooming Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead) Test 5: Walking through a crowd Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place Test 7: Coming when called Test 8: Reaction to another dog Test 9: Reaction to distraction Test 10: Supervised separation i think tha any one who can should gatsby just made the day for some of those older people and i feel like a better person for helping him make them feel better |
