my sincere apologies for being MIA!
i've been a little busy settling myself in korea and getting used to my new job: English teacher.

the good news is that i have submitted my application to adopt an abandonned yorkie here in korea! he is 1 yr old named dolce. he is currently with his foster mommy and im hoping that his mommy will approve me as dolce's new mommy!

since i've never adopted an older dog, can anyone give me tips?

p.s this dog is not neutered... i would like to have him neutered asap but since he will be in a new environment, i dont want to stress him. how long do you think i should wait?

Maybe you could get the foster mommy to have him neutered before he comes to you then he wouldn't associate any unpleasantness of the surgery with you. Then you could start fresh. Just a thought. Good luck.

Pretty much a non-issue. Rescues are always neutered and spayed while in foster care and it just is not a problem. If he is a rescue why is he not being neutered prior to his adoption? :confused:

at the moment, he is living with a foster mom....
i had an interview with the foster mommy and so far so good! she really likes me and i'm going to meet the dog on monday. if all goes well, i'll have a new baby on monday:D

in korea, people abandon their dogs for stupid reasons such as
1. its not cute anymore
2. its stupid
3. it costs too much money (Trust its soooo cheap to take care of a dog in korea compared to back in canada.... the annual shots come up to $60... canada $300+)

its gotten so bad that i saw in a tv program that there is an island for abandonned dogs. families go there for vacation and leave their dog there. talk about stupidity right there!

the country does pick up st dogs and they have 10 days before they get put down. there is an organization called korea animal rescue where expats will volunteer their home to foster th ese abandonned dogs. hence often most are not neutered.

however, there is a very nice vet an hour away from me named dr choi, he fosters a lot of abaondonned animals. if a foster suddenly needs to leave the country, he takes them in and because he is a vet, he will perform the surgery and if sick, rehab the animals before putting them up for adoption.

because he is experienced with older dogs, i think i will travel to his vet to get the surgery done. i have sent him an email and i will go talk to him before i get the dog.

good news: i passed the phone interview process, i get to meet the dog on monday! yipee for 3 hr metro ride :)
