I just bought a yorkie from a breeder who chain smokes? Hi everyone! This is my first post. I am very excited about my recent purchase of a yorkie yesterday. I put a deposit on her, and cannot pick her up for another month. This didn't hit me until I left yesterday, but I walked into the house of the breeder and it was just a cloud of smoke. He must have smoked at least three cigarettes during the time I was there (about an hour) and I am wondering if this is going to negatively effect my puppy. I remember leaving there with red eyes from all the smoke, so I know it cannot be good for the dogs. The parents of my yorkie looked fine and healthy (from their appearance at least) but I just don't want to have my dog be really sick or something 2 or 3 years down the line. Thanks for any and all input, I have been really worrying about this. ~Taylor |
I'd look at it this way, if smokers can quit after years of smoking and have their lungs generally clear for the better I don't think a few weeks of being around a person who smokes will hurt your puppy as long as he wasn't blowing it into your puppy's face. They will probably get more exposure to foul fumes from car exhaust emissions on walks than from second hand smoke. Others may disagree but that's my opinion. Perhaps the breeder didn't smoke in the kennel area anyway if the parents were healthy. Jackie & my :littleangSophie :aimeeyork |
Ok, thanks. I hope I am just overreacting to this :) |
Congratulations Taylor on your new baby. I think she will be fine just a little stinky from the smoke. When you have her checked with the vet I would mention this and they may have a better answer. Please post a picture when you get her. :aimeeyork |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new baby! I am sure that the smoke is not good for your puppy, but once you get it out of the environment, I am sure everything will be fine. Can't wait to see pictures! |
Agree !! First Welcome to YT and Congrats !!!!! on your new furbaby. I agree , the furbaby should be ok, just make sure no one else smoke around her, My brother lives with me, and he is a chain smoker , but he is not allowed to smoke in the house and I make him wash his hands if he wants to play with my furbabies. Good Luck !!! bark@ulater !!!! manina, miley:aimeeyorkmax:aimeeyorksasha:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |

Congratulations, and welcome to YT!! :) |
No I think that you have a legitimate concern about what your new puppy is being exposed to with this breeder. Other than the smoking issue have you thoroughly checked this breeder out? Sometimes one red flag can lead to others. How exciting that you are going to be a new Yorkie owner. :) Welcome to YT and I hope you enjoy it here. :) |
Funny you mentioned this cuz the breeder I picked up my Sushi from was also a smoker. When we left her house, me and Sushi both reeked of smoke! Although everything else looked great there: her house was spotless clean and the kennel was super clean and cute, all the dogs healthy and happy walking around the house, or in play pens with their newborns. I was very impressed with the facility. But the smoking issue has always been in the back of my mind, hoping that problems don't surface somewhere down the line. |
Congrats!..I like to put a positive spin on things..You are taking this lil" baby out of an unhealthy environment. Right? that is the good thing. Try not to worry and enjoy!! Think positve :) |
