Did I do this? I have noticed that my little girl is becoming more and more ...attached...obsessed, I don't know what to call it. I am noticing some things as she gets older. I let her sleep in the bed with me and have noticed that if I change position she will move herself so that she is pressed against my side. When I am sitting on the couch she has to either be pressed up against my side or laying on my feet. If i am in the kitchen, she sits in the dining room and just stares at me. most embarrasing when I am in the bathroom, she sits and stares at me and when I am in the shower and she can't see me, she sits outside the door and waits for me. On one hand I am flattered that she loves me so completely, but on the other I am afraid that I did this to her. I'm not working now so I am home alot and am afraid that my being home has made her more reliant and fixed on me. sometimes she stares at me as if i am her everything lol |
Yorkies are very loving and loyal companions. She is showing her love for you and the desire to be around you all the time. She is showing normal behavior...so enjoy it. Rockie is the same way very attached to me. lf you want some time to yourself periodically; look into getting a xpen to put her in. My daughter brought one and l'm very happy with it. |
Yes, I would agree completly with Charly. They are loyal and loving and often fiercely independent. Mine will play by herself, beg me to play with her,sit next to me, sit on the couch but far away. Jump on the bed to be with the "pack". We don't let her sleep with us though, I have a problem with being able to sleep and can no longer let the cat or dog sleep with me. They move around and wake me up too frequently. I used to know a lady who owned an Airdale Terrier and slept with her dog. But if she moved, the dog would growl at her, she could not move around in bed without the dog's permission! So your dog sounds just fine right now! Just loving you and wanting to be with you as part of her pack! She is behaving like a normal dog! |
Thank you so much for your replies. I was afraid that I spoiled her or somehow made her act like this. I love her to bits and it warms me to the core to know that she loves back. Just have to get used to the constant physical contact and the looks that say "I adore you" LOL. |

I think a big part of it is loyalty, but another part is common sense. When any of mine lay up against me, they fall asleep, because they know if I move or get up, it will wake them up. When I took one of my rescues out kayaking, she totally bonded with me and wouldn't let me out of her sight. I thought our outing was quite disasterous: she barked at everything non stop, she fell in the water twice, she caused the kayak to flood and fill up with water so I had to pull it out to dump the water out. But when we came ashore and she followed me around for an hour or more, I figured she had had a blast and didn't want to miss out on doing it or something again. Her previous owners dumped her at the pound, after breeding her at 1.5 years old, and finding she had elevated liver values. 2nd owners brought her back to the pound ... Then I got her. She really goes gaga over my hubby too. She has definitely become a part of our family, and I think she's beginning to feel it, too. It's great to watch her grow and see her personality develope in a caring environment. Oh,... and Welcome to YT!!! |
