Is there a reason your vet wants to spay her at 5 months old? I only ask because of the teeth problem. With the smaller ones i like to wait until their adult canine teeth are in so if they grow in behind the baby teeth then the teeth can be pulled at the same time as the spay. This way they won't have to be put under again in a few month to pull the teeth out. i understand you not wanting her to go into heat first but typically the smaller dogs don't go into heat until 8-9 months old, sometimes later. So waiting till they are 6-7 months old for a spay is ok. |
He said that he feels that is more beneficial and the risks are lowered when the spaying is done before 6 months. Last friday I asked him about the baby teeth, and he said he wouldn't take them out because they're not out enough yet, so I immagine he wants to do it afterwards??? I just actually made a call to ask him about the teeth, because I would prefer not to have her undergo anesthesia again for her teeth (he's in surgery so he'll call me bath in an hr) I am following his advice; I have read many studies and posts and they make me feel more uncomfortable and even more nervous about the whole procedure!! Chloe is my first dog, and I'm trying to do my best in giving her the best; sometimes there's so much mixed information out there, that you don't know which way to go; although it scares me SOOOOOO MUCH!, I'm hoping that everything goes better than perfect. I will await his response on the teeth issue to see if I do go through with it or if I wait a little longer to do both things at once; but question: their baby teeth NEED to be pulled out by a vet? or do they almost always fall out on their own? her baby teeth are loose already......ahhhhh what a dilemma! +_+ |
this is just my opinion but if it weren't for the teeth problem i'd agree with your vet. i see no problem with spaying at that age and weight. i just don't like that there is a great possibility that the baby teeth aren't going to fall out and your just gonna have to put her under again. |
